I personally think that the Planet's Funniest Animals is very good. I watched it tonght on the off-chance and I have to say that I laughed like a hyena,

I do hope you were joking when you said that...

Not at all - I found it to be very good teatime light entertainment. A lovely accompanient to my dinner yesterday.

Well if *I* was director of programming at ITV1, I would move Des and Mel to 5pm Monday to Friday. A really good live chat show would work well at that time, probably beating the socks off Richard and Judy, and would attract a very wide audience.

I don't think putting Des & Mel against Richard & Judy would benefit anyone.

We've already got a chat show and that's not doing too well.

If you're talking about Richard & Judy, it has been doing very well this year. It got off to a shaky start but it has now bedded in.

You seem to be implying that Des and Mel would be a similar show to Richard and Judy. Ummmm, no. D+M is a comedy chatshow with celebrities, whereas R+J is a newsy magazine programme. Both different audiences IMHO.

5.00 Shortland Street
5.30 Entertainment Program/Quiz etc

You seem to have dropped the regional slot that Granada regions have?

Well isn't that a radical schedule Rolling Eyes And whilst we are at it, why not just give up with the whole Shortland Street carry on. There is no way that ITV will have a soap between 5-6pm and certainly not some third rate effort from New Zealand. Deal with it.

However irritating this ongoing Shortland Street obsession is, Jez quite rightly points out that a game show would be ideal from 5:30 to 6. And I know just what - Crosswits; with Tom O'Connor and the original music. So fabulous, and made by Tyne Tees as well.

They have never tried SS networked at 5pm so we will never know. The schedule is mostly the same as it is now except I have changed the 2pm and 5pm slots.

And how do you know whether SS is a third rate soap? Have you ever watched the program? I watch it and it is mostly of high quality, certainly more superior to everything else that has been shown at 5pm this year ie Xroads, Planets Funniest Animals, Crocodile Diaries etc

Hmmmm I think I'll try a few ideas:

9.25: News update with Felicity Barr
9.30: Your Life - live consumer-based programme with Chris Choi, with expert advice on how to get the best value for money and all the newest products tested.
10.00: Guilty Conscience - Jane Moore presents the ruthless gameshow where contestants compete to win £1000 by cheating. Don't know how, but it sounds good anyway.
10.30: Today with Des and Mel - get shut of This Morning, it's rubbish. Des O'Connor and Melanie Sykes present the brightest show on TV, with celebrity guests, phone-ins and competitions.
12.30: Afternoon Live - laid-back news show from ITN presented by Nick Owen and Felicity Barr. IMHO the current format of the ITV Lunchtime News doesn't really suit the general style of the show, so I think it would be better to extend it to an hour and have it focussing more on consumer and lifestyle issues, plus having more debate and discussion. Including sofas.
1.30: Regional slot.
2.00: Drama
3.00: News
...blah blah blah, you get the idea.

Actually some good ideas there.

How about.

9.25 Sorted [maybe a more granny friendly name would be needed]- live consumer-based programme, consumer issues, con men, scams and product tests.
10.00 This Morning
11.30 Sorted Update and Britain's Most Wanted Daily [Cheap rip off, of the fairly successful crimewatch daily]
12.00 Lunchtime Live - Local programme
12.30 ITV Lunchtime News
1.00 Des & Mel / Loose Women
2.00 Crosswits / 9.25 type quiz
2.30 UK Today - News debate and phone in show (The Time, The Place, meets The Wright Stuff)
3.25 ITV News Update
3.30 CITV
5.05 [ish] CITV Classic, branded as CITV but with older shows
5.30 ITV Comedy, Barbara, Hardware [maybe], The Sketch Show, Holding The Baby, Loved By You, Mr Bean.

Any thoughts?
