Some cool old gear in there, film cameras and film editing desks! Thought they would have offloaded those ages ago!

By the masses of computers going it shows how many staff have been sacked.

I like the sound of some of that equipment.

Are there loads of computers, I can't see them?

They are, but they are AVID Newscutter workstations

Yeah. presumably some are from Westcountry and some have been superseeded by a newer suite.

I don't know the system but I wonder if they can be used stand alone or whether they need to be connected to an bigger Avid system

They can be used standalone
BUT it requires a lot of knowledge of networking. Also, if they have been set up to work on a larger Avid hub they won't work standalone.

Did Westcountry switch from their Quantel system to Avid before they shut down then? ISTR that Central South in Abingdon were very early Quantel adopters - with Clipbox and Editbox, but that Westcountry had a more recent serverQ system?

It was just a guess, I can't imagine Bristol and Birmingham suddenly needing 30 less edit machines

I think they must've done. Those units look remarkably similar to the ones my friend showed me on a visit to Westcountry in May this year.

They aren't Newscutter workstations. They're more higher end finishing suites as those grey boxes are the Adrenaline setups. Most Newscutters are just standalone PCs. The black boxes on top are the storage drives for them.

IF they bought those for journalists to edit on, then they were seriously oversold the kit! Most newscutter studio systems consist of about 2-3 Adrenaline based craft suites and poss 10 normal desktop editing setups running on normal PCs

This is kit from all of ITV not just West Country.
Looks like mostly from Newsrooms - apart from the wheel barrow and lawnmower!
