One thing I'm wondering is does any of ITV's launch night show exist? I know the film that led into it, with all the shots of London does, but I'm guessing the show itself doesn't, as I've never seen any of it.

Apparently all that's left of the first night are the speeches
I'd say the only thing missing is a proper "history of ITV' type programme similar to Melvyn Bragg's one ten years ago.
Yes, although even 10 years ago that programme felt more like an obituary, than a celebration !
They may as well show it again (albeit re-edited) The BBC did the same last year, with the BBC 2 40th
anniversary prog from 2004.
I don't remember it as being that good - recall one edition where Bragg was arguing that although sitcoms had died a death the over the top characters they portrayed are still present on ITV in the likes of I'm A Celebrity. Erm ok right you are, Melv...
Also recall Bragg was always defending ITV (even through the dark days of Charles Allen) until they axed his show and then joined everyone else having a pop
Interestingly The Archers finished at 1900 and ITV went on the air at 1915, so it seems hard to believe it would have had that much of an impact on the launch night.
Maybe not on ratings for ITV (which of course was London only anyway).... but which one were all the papers and the public talking about the next day?
I'm not sure whether this is actually the front page of the Mail or a montage, but...

I like to say that I really enjoyed Here is the News on ITV last night. I thought it was a excellent documentary with a lot of the major news contributions from ITV, Channel 4, Sky and the BBC.
The pressure of working in a high end newsroom is overwhelming but seriously rewarding for those who work their hardest to stay in the job. And here to another 60 years at ITV News at Ten. Long may it prosper.
Did nobody watch 'This is the news' last night? A nice little programme, and nice to see the likes of John Suchet, Katie Derham etc sharing their memories.
It was a very enjoyable programme. Lots of focus on News at Ten.
