I thought the same when a This is your life was mentioned. As long as they managed to successfully straddle gravitas and mainstream in the celebs chosen, it could be a hit. (I.e nobody from towie, nobody who just happened to be on the last series of I'm a celeb, nobody too young or who has been in the spotlight 5 minutes)
They'd still be able to shoehorn in current ITV stars in a couple of the episodes, just like the BBC do with Who do you think you are, as there are many ITV stars who would have good long stories to tell.
From the comment above, are you saying the rights ownership is complicated?
I notice over the weekend that The Road To Coronation Street has been broadcast on ITV3. Not sure if it's because it's ITV's birthday or not?
Also as its an ITV Studios production for the BBC (as it was originally transmitted on BBC Four in 2010, and the end board kept the BBC logo on) would ITV of had to buy it back from the BBC or would the BBC rights have expired?
Id've thought someone who owns Trafalgar Media (or TX Media, Neon Media or whatever the hell you're calling it now!) and has apparently made shows for all the major channels would know how the rights issues work

The copyright was always owned by ITV Studios rather than the BBC. I'm guessing the contract would have stated BBC Four would have exclusivity for a limited period.

Of course, Stephen Hendry was on This Is Your Life when he was 23. If you're interesting enough, you're old enough.
Not sure anyone has ever accused Stephen Hendry of being interesting. I guess at the moment they've got Life Stories so ITV would be unlikely to bring back This is your Life until that ended.
Got to say, I am very disappointing with ITV. You would never know today was their 60th birthday. Apart from a few mentions on This Morning, have they actually done anything?
Nothing has even been posted on their official Facebook page. No special ident/break bumpers, no special programming (on today, I know they have done specials up to the day).
It all just feels very boring and poor. I wasn't expecting a big deal like they did for their 50th, but a little something would have been good. They do special idents for big events like the world cups, royal births etc, but not for their own milestone birthday? Very strange.

They do special idents for things the viewing public at large give a **** about then?
The schedule tonight kind of sums up what ITV has become. Apart from the news documentary lately the day itself feels somewhat unloved - even just an ident with some candles would have been a decent enough nod.
Looking at the ITV News story though when did regional news come to London in particular. I imagine the regions launched with some kind of news service of their own but did London just use the ITN bulletins initially. I know Thames and LWT didn't really put as much effort in as perhaps you'd expect.
If you ask the British public, 98% couldn't care less about ITV creating a special set of idents. As lovely as it would be, it's just not in ITV's interests.
