New daytime soap to 'revive' ITV schedules

Britain's biggest commercial broadcaster today unveiled plans to launch a new daytime soap. Not discouraged by the failure of both 'Night and Day' and 'Crossroads', the network (soon to become known as ITV plc) has already hired a 92-strong cast and secured a time-slot on ITV1, which has been struggling in the daytime ratings since the loss of Home and Away.

Said Helen Wallace of Carlton Television, "We're all very excited about the new show. You can expect to see some famous names including Glynis Barber, Lisa Riley and Jane Asher."

The yet unnamed show will focus on life working in a hotel after a young girl vanishes from the premises and we're told to expect a shocking start.

"It's something we've never tried in this time-slot before. It's hard hitting drama with a mysterious twist."

The show will air at 17:00 and starts early next year.

Oh dear oh dear. Sounds like a flop.

LOL

I dont think chrisb post was exactly serious - I doubt even ITV would set another soap in a hotel, after the disaster that was Crossroads.

Well I hope and pray it was a joke, because ITV are setting themselves up for a fall again. AND GOD OH GOD put it on at 5:30!

Well I just wanted to be clear you know its a joke, as in the title of your thread you have put "90 Strong cast, 5PM Slot"

I dont think 5.30 would be any good, it would clash with Neighbours and the weakest link. I think it has to be a lunchtime soap and keep 5pm for entertainment progs and quiz shows etc

Lunchtime, I feel, wouldn't work.

We can't have two threads on one topic (and although there's a 'split thread' function, I haven't come across a 'merge thread' one), so given that this one was created two days later than the other, I think it's only fair to leave the other one open.

Thread Closed.
