The phasing out of ITV Play is to be welcomed but longer runs of series? Yeah we all know what that'll mean, year-long runs of safe options like Heartbeat and little risk-taking short ventures.
No, I think it is to be taken to mean 12, 14 and 16 episode series rather than the 6-8 we expect.

It's not all bad news then.
BBC South East Today are just reporting that ITV Meridian News are cutting jobs, mainly from Maidstone. Don't know if thats a good thing or not to be honest as Meridian News has rapidly declined in recent years anyway.
Word is ITV has submitted plans to Ofcom to scrap news sub-regions (ie. Anglia West and East) and double up smaller regions, ie. West and Westcountry, Border and Tyne Tees. Not only is that a further dereliction of regional duty it's also a major step backwards where local news provision is concerned; all that fuss about making the Midlands a dual region in the 1980s only for ITV plc to return to the ATV situation of one service for the whole region.
BREAKING NEWS: Plans to merge the West and Westcountry news service announced on BBC Spotlight. ITV insist that if approved the new service would be "well-resourced".

Yes but this isn't the late 70s/early 80s no more. TV has changed since then and appears to have gone full circle in the Midlands.

Peter Cadbury would be pleased.
Here in the Gloucester corner of the ITV West region Manchester is nearer than Plymouth. Perhaps we should apply to be covered by Granada?

Presumbly the South West News service would be Bristol Based.
