The sooner that ITV reckognises that it needs to produce better quality programs to get the viewers back, - the better!
Since Carlton and Co have taken over, we have seen a steady decline in quality, and too much being contracted out often to the lowest bidder. Although drama and sport is produced to a high standard, well the rest including National News has declined sharply. The time when the regional companies really competed to have their programs shown on the Network, saw a good standard and variety, and a great pride.
Successive Governments must also be blamed for allowing the changes in regulation for this to have taken place. If anyone thinks that allowing an American Company to own ITV will improve things, flows against the advice of the Select Committee that the present Government set up, and its advice it subsequently ignored,-- needs to think again!!
Just advertising on C4 is puting a "spin" on things. Unless the product is good, they are wasting their money. (cost of advertising to come from making even more people redundant, I guess!)

I remember quite a few years ago actually there was a programme shared between Channel 4 and either BBC 1 or 2.

Dramas by Dennis Potter, cant remember the names. One was made by the BBC, the other by Channel 4, both shown on their own channel, then swapped, so C4 showed the BBC show, and vice versa

Also they did a shared thing between BBC2 and C4 (and R3) where they staged an opera in real time over several locations. And now I come to think of it, C4 and R3 also had a simultaneous broadcast for the network debut of Derek Jarman's film "Blue", which was pre-NICAM - so it was arranged for R3 to carry the soundtrack in stereo. That was c.1992, I think.

When BBC1 had "Open Air" in the mornings (late 80s?), if a C4 programme was to be discussed C4 would often announce the fact with a slide after the programme (can't remember whether it was a BBC-style slide or a C4 one though).

There was an American Drama made in 1996 called Cold Lazarus, which was transmitted on BBC1 and Channel 4 with only a day or two difference to which episodes they would show. I do have a trailer for it on video, it is the BBC1 version, though the V/O only says what time it is on BBC1, it also tells what time and day it is on Channel 4.

The first promo/commercial will go out in Wife Swap next week, and will be for Holiday Showdown on next Thursday.

Cold Lazarus was *not* an American drama. Along with Karaoke, it was written by Dennis Potter and was a co-production between the BBC and C4.

Dennis Potter was dying of cancer when he wrote them, but his stature as a dramatist was such that he was able to persuade the BBC and C4 to cooperate in their production and to show them on both channels. Sadly, he didn't live to see them completed.

Yes, This afternoon on Sky Sports 1, I saw the Holiday Showdown Trailer. Just the same as it is on ITV1 except for the end says coming soon instead of Thursday at 9.

I wonder if it's going to have any impact. After all 'Coming soon' suggests a time further away than later this week - and it will rely on people being interested enough that they actively go and find out what time the programme is on.

Yes, the 'Coming Soon' is misleading, as some will think 'Oh that looks good, we'll watch that soon' and by the time they remember, it would have been on weeks ago.

Maybe at the end just have 'Holiday Showdown - ON ITV1' with the voiceover saying that, then people will think 'Oh, thats on ITV1, dig out the tv times, oh its on this Thursday at 9, right watch that!' or flick over to ITV1 and see the thursday at 9 trailer.

BTW - Has it been mentioned that tomorrow Family is not in. Instead it’s 'Holiday Airport - Cyprus'. UTV had a trailer last night and it said a change to the billed. All the TV guides say family, but on Thursdays page show the changed program Holiday showdown and not Sweet Medicine.
