Ah but you see the way this industry works is that creative/marketing bods come up with a new "fab" idea and then sell it to management. It's then left to the technical people to try and explain why it won't work. Unfortunately the plan is too far progressed by that stage and technical problems are palmed off as just the engineers being awkward. In the end sacrifices of some kind end up being made technically in order to carry out the wishes of the creatives.

Ah. So I take it that although we can see ITV4 on Channel 30 NOW on Freeview. By the time it is launched either Men & Motors or the ITV News Channel will HAVE to depart from Freeview?

Even if ITV4 doesn't officially launch on Sky November 1st. Sky viewers will be able to watch it via the 'Other Channels' function.

That makes this "botch of a launch" even worse. I think BSkyB should be forced to sell off the operation which controls the EPG, perhaps to Astra/SES. It's a ridiculous state of affairs where a channel buys transponder space and yet cannot appear on the EPG without some sort of grovelling to BSkyB Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

All the ITV Channels have had troublesome launches, so perhaps its ITV putting a cog in the works...

- ITV2 didn't get carriage on satellite until a few years after it's launch. (not forgetting ITV1 either)

AIUI the opening programme registered as a zero, or 700 people apparently! But you have to remember ITV2 opened when On Digital was barely a month old (ie No subscribers) and it was also available on Cable & Wireless, which wasn't that many homes.

I don't know how the powers that be at the time didn't close down ITV2, ITV2 wasn't doing well, neither was S2, TV You/UTV2 was a joke and I presume GMTV2 was watched by virtually no-one aswell.

Interesting to note that the latest ITV4 promo includes the magic word 'Satellite' at the bottom!
