Not sure how I feel about ITV News doing that. Not through any objection to Pride or the LGBT community, but because the Pride movement is, in part, a political/campaign group. I would question whether an impartial news organisation should show support in that way.

It potentially makes things a bit difficult if, for example, they interview Ann Widdecombe about her recent ridiculous comments on homosexuality. There is an easy target for people to claim that it was biased.

Just to clarify in case it's necessary - I am questioning whether a news organisation should be demonstrating support for Pride rather than having any issue with Pride myself.

I think calling the LGBT+ community a “political/campaign group” is very patronising and insensitive. Would/do you say the same if ITV gave public support to an anti-racism movement?

I described the Pride movement as a campaign group, not the whole LGBT+ Community. I don't think that is inaccurate

My my... The suggestion by some members on here that the reporting of a parade for LGBT+ equality is something which has to be balanced with bigotry and homophobia to satisfy both sides is an absolute choice.

It's like saying "I think the reporting of that murder should have been neutral because the convicted killer has feelings too".

It's a simple case of right and wrong, and the media will obviously tell the story from the perspective of what is right.

Yes but you said this on the topic of ITV using the pride flag colours. The pride flag isn’t something made by Pride in London as you suggest, the pride flag isn’t owned by any campaign group. The pride flag represents the LGBT+ community, which isn’t a campaign group.

As a member of the LGBT+ community, I don’t need educating on the LGBT+ movement... I just wanted to express my feelings on your original statement. I didn’t mean anything personally against you or anyone else who may have the same perspective as you.

My point, which you have spectacularly missed, is that the Pride movement and the LGBT+ Community are not the same thing.

We're not discussing reporting. We are discussing ITV News using a rainbow coloured logo.

Which is like saying the civil rights movement and black people are not the same thing.

Which you say compromises its impartiality. Which suggests you believe there should be more of a balance.

The pride flag represents both the Pride movement and LGBT+ community. While you describe me as “spectacularly missing” your point, I find it spectacular you’re advising tv channels to not associate with the pride flag, whether you mean the LGBT+ community or a movement.

He’s not advised TV channels not to associate with the pride flag. He was merely questioning if it was the right the thing to do.

Which the answer is yes. I’m sure some of the more conservative older generation have some strong views on subjects such as racial/gender equality. Should we question if associating with those matters is the right thing to do too?

The answer is absolutely yes, and to question its use on the grounds of impartiality suggests LGBT+ rights are up for debate, which they shouldn't be.

Please stop misquoting and misrepresenting me, it's getting tedious now.

Once more for those struggling to keep up: ITV *News* using a rainbow logo on the day of London Pride amounts to ITV News making a political statement. I am asking if that is appropriate for an impartial news provider. Nothing more.
Charlesy, Si-Co and Inspector Sands gave kudos
