They are name checking just the one host for Calendar as well, and to be fair they don’t sound like they’ve been cut out of the double header version, so maybe they had all the 3 versions recorded all the time.

I always think it’s a shame they couldn’t have a version for the Friday duo, I get that having versions for every possible combination may be too much, but the Friday programme was more often than not the same duo every week, so they’d only have to resort to the generic version in unusual circumstances.

Just wondering how the regional news announcements are going as generally speaking here at least they usually have a variation namechecking the main presenting pair or just something generic. Are they using variations just name checking one host?

Here in Granadaland they are name checking the one presenter who is presenting that night. So far it has either been Lucy Meacock or Tony Morris who are the two main anchors.

Before this they used to name check only when Lucy and Tony presented together. Otherwise it would be a generic announcement for Granada Reports In The North West.

It does make me wonder why they can;t always address whoever is presenting but they may already have recordings for just Lucy or Tony.

I thought it sounded a bit cut from the normal double name check on tonight's "with Tony Morris"

It's probably quicker and easier to record something new rather than chop and change what they've got, unless they're already recorded in such a way that can be done.

From (my very bad) memory previously when they've had single headed bulletins (i.e. when football cuts it back to 15 minutes) I think it's usually been the generic intro.

Bear in mind they have different versions for all the different announcers, so it sounds seemless from the announcer that reads the menu they do at 5:59

And fair play to them for not just opting to do what they do at the weekends with a generic "news where you are" intro (if indeed they play an ident).

Some announcers introduce the regional news at weekends with near enough the same script they’d just used to introduce the national news about 15 mins previously
“Now let’s get all the latest headlines, it’s the ITV News”

Not like it’s vital though. Idents namechecking regional presenters is an unnecessary complication, especially with current resources being stretched already.

I've never seen the point of an ident before ITV News, regional or national (or channel 4 and 5 for that matter) - the name of the channel is in the name of the programme

Quite the opposite for me - they're the flagship PSB shows and it still annoys me that idents at 6.30, for both the ITV News, and also for the BBC regions, have been lost along the way.

Have noticed though Granada are now at least ending with an ITV News endcap similar to London, which I think does work better than a straight crash into the national news.

They did that in the early years of national continuity after they’d scrapped regional branded versions of ITV1 idents and in my opinion it was naff, programmes would just start off the back of the last advert, like it was an after thought.

In the days of the regions you’d get a grandiose ident at 6pm and then in that era I mention you’d get nothing. What they do now is the best they’ve ever done since 2002

Why are you singling out the BBC for needing an ident, surely they don’t either?

They could get someone from each of the regions to introduce each programme live and name check too.
