I've seen Yorkshire coming back, they welcome viewers, announce what's coming up (including "Yorkshire's own 321") and then say they're handing over to Thames for the rest of the evening. I read somewhere Westward did Westward Diary on the first night, I'm not sure where that would have gone, and also apparently ATV showed football highlights at 10.30 on the first night too.
Yes, according to Leonard Parkin the national service was due to run until the start of the autumn schedules the following Monday but some of the regional news programmes started again the day afterwards.
