Surprised no one's picked up on this one!

Was there any series that escaped being affected by the strike, due to recording / transmission dates?

Only ones I can think of are 'Callan' & 'Special Branch' Series 2!

Didn't they reshoot Upstairs Downstairs? Obviously with the ITV3 repeats a giveaway, there were several episodes of On The Buses that were left in B/W. I recall seeing a programme with Sid James in from the 70s in B/W, but I'm not too sure if it was Bless this House.

They only reshot the first episode of Upstairs Downstairs, with a slightly different ending. Originally Pauline Collins stayed for about 5 episodes, with her last episode being the final one made in black and white. The producers were hoping to sell the series to America, who wouldn't have wanted the black and white episodes, so the pilot was remade in colour with Pauline Collins leaving at the end of it. When the colour episodes were shown with the B&W ones missed out, this still made sense with the story, rather than having a character vanish.

I am glad you brought this up as recently I have watched some episodes of Coronation Street from 1970 and 1971 which were in Black & White and wondered why? I now know as there was a Colour Strike.

I hate to link to a Wiki page, but this link explains it.

Corrie reverted to black and white again from around October 1970 until February 1971!

I see no one's read the original question.

I was asking whether any shows/series escaped being affected by the strike due to recording/transmission dates?

No shows which were recorded during the "colour strike" escaped. And shows which had been made in colour prior to the strike but shown during that period were screened in black and white, although, if they exist in the archives, they will be in colour. Upstairs, Downstairs has already been mentioned but another LWT production, Budgie, started life in black and white. Thames dramas like Public Eye and The Mind of MR J G Reeder were hit, as was ATV's The Misfit and Yorkshire's Hadleigh. Black and white episodes of comedies like Bless This House and Benny Hill exist from this period, as do children's programmes, sport etc. Of course, once the "colour strike" ended, many programmes, because they'd been made during the period, continued to be screened in black and white. The late Bernard Braden joked about it on his BBC show...."Are you feeling off-colour? Then switch to ITV". In response to the original post, perhaps the recording dates of a few shows were changed once a settlement to the dispute appeared likely, but the ones which "escaped" primarily did so because they weren't scheduled to be made during the strike period.
