Yes very true. No matter how they might want to pretend otherwise!

Well the franchises all exist, all under Granada ie ITV plc, as to what jason said, yes ITV really did die in 1993, it was also the year where a lot of programmes which were around for a good few years, also finished in that year, I knew from then onwards, that ITV was never to be the same again, at least if you lived in the Central region, you had very decent TV presentation(even in the CARLTON days), YTV forgot that from Autumn 1993 onwards and ruined Tyne Tees in the process!

Most people call every channel, channel 1, channel 2, channel 3, channel 4, channel 5 and everything else Sky

It doesn't mean it is right

As this is a TV Forum I would expect people to use the proper names of the channels

I wonder do you use old former names of other companies that you don't like. Do you tell everyone you are going to Dixons or Safeway as if you are making some sort of stand!

The ITV region names aren't "former names" though, they are still used. Safeways no longer exists as a company name I think-- absorbed rather than taken over? Confused

At the end of Heartbeat or The Royal , the credits end with (c) Yorkshire TV 2006. So AFAIK, the ITV franchises still are held under the regional companies' names.

In addition, the station names are still in common use on regional programmes. If you give your local TV station a call, there is a good chance they'll still use the local name too -- TTTV still announce themselves by their regional title on the phone.

I don't know of anyone who calls ITV "Channel 3".

I think those of us who grew up in London usually called it ITV - because we had both Thames and LWT. However in other parts of the UK people usually used the regional names - Anglia, Granada etc.

I know a lot of people in the East still call ITV1 "Anglia"...

Likewise. It's either ITV or STV up here.

At least STV are keeping a bit of regionality. I can't see the name lasting another 10 years right enough. ITV will probably get their hands on it. Rolling Eyes

It depends what age you are talking about

I don't think I've ever heard anyone under 30 here call it Yorkshire or YTV either now or back in the 90s

Most people are lazy and just call it 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5

Pretty much the same here. ITV or Tyne Tees. Perhaps the odd Channel 3 or '3'. But not ITV1.

Well Tyne Tees was rebranded as "Channel 3 North East" under Gyngell wasn't it?

I don't know anyone whoever calls it ITV1 - unlike BBC One...

Funnily enough, I know plenty of people, young and old, who refer to BBC1 as "BBC", and BBC2 as "2". Can't have anything to do with BBC1 being called BBCtv 42 years ago, coincidence, but amusing nonetheless.

Most people round here call ITV1 "Granada", despite whether they have Granada, Central or HTV, it seems to be the general name. Granada is such a big name people can't just easily "forget" and let it die.

Well at least the idents set up for it. The usual STV cast pass a stupid looking S logo over to some bloke in a business suit, who runs off with it...
