Most people call every channel, channel 1, channel 2, channel 3, channel 4, channel 5 and everything else Sky
It doesn't mean it is right
As this is a TV Forum I would expect people to use the proper names of the channels
I wonder do you use old former names of other companies that you don't like. Do you tell everyone you are going to Dixons or Safeway as if you are making some sort of stand!

Ah yes, they disappeared sometime in either 2003, 2004 latest. I remember Granada used to show Granada Action at 5.58pm, they even carried this on after Continuity was Nationalised.
I was sorry to see the Leeds team go, but they weren't a patch on the Manchester crew, as none of the Manchester team went to Leeds.
And Blimey! Four years already, doesn't time fly....

I haven't seen a regional trail, promo or PSA in about 3 years now, outside the local news.

Granada will always be Granada to quite a lot of people in the North West. Even today, myself included, many of my friends, colleagues, peers still acll it Granada, then ITV2, etc.....
Presentation has never been the same since Grabada (I do mean the spelling mistake btw) ditched it in favour for Leeds then London. Even now I miss the dolcit tones of Charles Foster, Colin Weston and Andrew Brittain. I even miss the god awful Granada Action and the late lamented This Is Your Right/Aap Kaa Hak (I think that's how it was spelt!)
Isn't all presentation, including programme promo's, whether regional or national, actually all done in London nowadays???
BTW, I have seen regional promo's for quite a few of the ITVGranada programmes.
With reference to an earlier post....
ITV plc is supposedly going to be changing its name - the channel names are not changing (more's the pity! - new broom, new names, new beginning and finally would have brought a new hope!!!)

Most of my mates call it Channel 3, because down here we've gon from Westward to TSW to Westcountry to Carlton to ITV1 - easier just to call it Channel 3.

A very good point, as you say that would be quite easy to achieve and is similar to what the BBC do.
They could go one better and provide clean idents and have the option to voice them live locally, one of the sub-opt newsreaders on Calendar for example - or even Kerrie Gosney!
From Norwich posted:
Regional News Centres should be provided with a selection of pre-voiced idents for use before the main 6pm programme. These would be played out locally to ensure that mistakes are not made. The current policy of no pre-programme idents on 6pm programmes makes for poor presentation, and is so easily remedied.

The ITV region names aren't "former names" though, they are still used. Safeways no longer exists as a company name I think-- absorbed rather than taken over?
At the end of Heartbeat or The Royal , the credits end with (c) Yorkshire TV 2006. So AFAIK, the ITV franchises still are held under the regional companies' names.
