Why? It's incredibly dull. I've seen local accountancy firms with more thoughtful logos than that.

Agreed, the current logo is awfully bland. I would say the best logo design was from 1989, while the '98 one wasn't as good but was still better than what we have now.

I think that
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/57/ITV1logo06.gif
that is the best logo ITV have had for a while.
The white version was just rubbish! A cheap tacky yellow look to a bolder look.

Personaly i like the most recent logo, however it could be used much more effectively.

I agree with this logo, I do love how the logo is basic, but gives the network a consistant linking identity, well it did.
Even though the logo is seen everywhere, it should be the branding around the logo that is used around the logo.
Look at ITV2, the logo looks ok. but the actual branding of the channel is what makes it for me. Again E4, simple logo, the branding of the world inside the logo is the identity.
I just can't connect with the ITV1 identity, no matter what graphics are added to make the scenes look interesting.

I don't like the logo. I liked the square boxes logos. I would have prefered a logo like this:

It's dull, but not that dull.

TV
Very true. The problem with subsequent ITV logos is the choice of lower case lettering, which has conveyed the message "dumbed down".
As good as the 1989 identity was, it was clearly very London-centric and at a time when ITV was still fiercely regional, it was inevitable some regions would reject it. The new look was perfect for Thames, but completely out of step with the cosy world of TSW.

IMHO nothing has ever come close to this superb logo:

I know I'm going to get flamed to death for saying this, but Carlton had an extremely strong logo, especially the 1999 version.
Carlton's programming was utter trash, but at least they had some branding sense though Martin Lambie-Nairn - the Cartlonisation should have happened a lot earlier.
I kinda wish they got to the much eviler Granada before Granada got to them - At least the brand would exist beyond the Screen Advertising Group.

I actually prefer the ITV blocks logo, so much you can do with that idea. In the end they just used the same animation over three different backgrounds, how boring. But since the BBC are using blocks I think ITV deserves it's own identity which uses a shape not usually seen in the UK - circle.
