It would *appear* in the short term to increase the numbers of people who sign up for TVF who then sign up for metropol. It's likely that once they *have* an account then they are more likely to post. In the future the new TVF software should automatically fill in the registration form on metropol but that appears to be still many months off.

No I simply feel that there are many newer members who may not be aware of the sister site and think it would be nice to get some new blood over there.

Whilst I'm all for new blood etc, I don't know how this can be justified as nobody who hasn't seen the forum before has to register to see what it's all about. It's not exactly friendly in trying to get "new blood" in.

By the way, was there an reason why it has gone this way in terms of you need to sign in to read the forum?

Its true that those who read while logged in are more likely to respond on a whim or a passing thought, and that's largely what the site is about. It has had a modicum of success, but if people feel strongly against logging in to view please just let me know and we'll look at the matter again.

In its defense, Metropol is not a site where people are invited in to be "ganged up on" - but I cannot deny there is a strong core of members who have been on TV Forum since day one, and they share opinions on subjects and individuals. Much the same things went on in TV Forum's Lounge, which Metropol replaced. That's what often happens when you have a group of well established friends together, but its neither by design nor conspiracy.

As moderators go I have absolute confidence in Hymagumba, as he's proven he can still contribute on the forum in his own unique way without abusing the role of mod. I'm able to see what he does in terms of reported posts from the rest of the membership and I'm satisfied that his decisions are sound. He's also fanstastic at keeping the tech side immaculately maintained, something I just don't have the skills to do.

Some members don't get on but they're never stifled in their right to reply unless they do something that warrants being banned, or request their membership be removed - something two of the complainants in this thread opted to do.

I'm sorry I'm having to post this on the main board. We really do need this thread to be split and shifted.

As harsh as we appear, Metropol is actually a pretty just place. If, like stu, you like to spew glib, moronic bilge like a lunatic and act like a self-appointed moral force with dazzling inconsistency, we will probably not take to you all that kindly. If you look through the old days of stu's posts before he started acting like that, you'll see he fitted in just fine.

Barcode doesn't get a very nice audience because he types a LOT faster than his brain can deal with. If he took more time and care with his posts - as we understandably asked him to - he might have found it to be a kinder place. Instead he continues, which makes it far too much effort to understand him. It's a shame, really, because he's clearly not a bad sort.

Slaggy is lazy too, but in an intellectual way. His problem is not putting any thought into his posts and consideration about whether he's stating the damned obvious.

Pad was deeply immature. He would throw strops at the slightest bit of criticism.

Perhaps the key point to remember about Metropol is that if you talk crap we WILL argue. That's not mean-spirited or bullying, it's just how the world works.

I don't see what is scary or unfriendly about metropol. I find it rather homely. It's like a comfy pair of slippers.

You really need a sense of humour and you definately shouldn't take whats said or yourselves too seriously. At the end of the day its just lighthearted banter.

There are loads of tvf members i'd love to see post more regularly on metro.

Thats right i did invite you over. I thought you'd be able to handle it. You do at times come out with some good oneliners.

Playing "Devil's Advocate" was merely a ruse to promote further discussion. I certainly wouldn't ever advise anyone to use me as a guide to set their moral compass; unless they wanted to be steered way off course, that is.

I find debate very enjoyable; friendly banter, or even the odd harmless jibe, can be an important element of that. I've changed my point of view on many subjects over the years in response to a convincing and well-reasoned argument; some of them authored by you, Herr Sput.

It ceases to be enjoyable when some members just launch unprovoked personal attacks, and I don't necessarily mean on me. I can certainly defend myself against any tirade of abuse: I learned to do so during many years in HR management. However, I was paid handsomly for that. I wouldn't want to spend my leisure time doing it, and don't understand why anyone else would.

I stopped posting shortly after New Year simply because the debates no longer appeared to be enjoyable enough to participate in. I continue to log-in to read the threads because, amongst the mud-slinging and sociopathic posts of some members, there is the ocassional "gem" which provides amusement or food for thought.

Glad I could educate you Wink

Also, SHAME ON EVERYONE for not thanking Isonstine for the superb work he's been doing behind the scenes the past, what, 7 years? He's infinitely more fabulous than robert and I think he deserves a second lot of fawning praise.

THANKS ISON. THISON.

How many threads do I have to lock this week!? TV Forum a place to discuss TV, not dead people, not moan about members, and 623058 please use a spell checker BEFORE posting. Either write your post in Word and let that do it, or get Firefox and its inbuilt spell check. Your original post was barely readable.

OH MY GOD! A totally reasonable thread closed down by Bail because....the spelling wasn't quite right???! Has bail let power go to his head?? I think so, it was actually a very interesting topic to comment on, sadly Bail closed it cos of spelling mistakes....if you're reading this, please be a little less heavy handed in future? There was no need to shut that thread down.

Ironically that thread was about TV. But I wouldn't call it a decent thread, nobody had bothered to contribute to the topic so I can see why it was shut, those kind of threads don't normally recover.

As Ben said, thread was beyond recovery it could only descend into infighting. I'd had RTP's about it and let it run, then it got worse so it was closed.
