The sunday telelgraph is reporting that it will close to help save money

What ITN, M&S' brother? They both close down something or things to use money on other stuff. Pathetic nonsense, that's what this country is @ times...

I happen to like the ITN News Channel at times - when is the closedown?

I'm not laying down the law here Cross Company, but could you please provide us a link which proves it won't be closing down?

It's cool!

As someone who works for ITN I am only too aware of the financial issues facing us at the moment but the ITN News Channel really doesn't cost too much to run! NTL funds a lot of it and the rest is made up of departmental things such as the TD's and Sound mixers, the reporters and the majority of the presenters!

I'm not saying it won't close if that means that it won't be the ITN News Channel, but an ITN produced News Channel will be there, it may be called the ITV News Channel who knows, but it won't close! After all they were working on a mini re-vamp which includes a plasma instead of a window key!

Trust me if you want I don't really care, I'm just taking part in the forum!

Cheers - CC

Just because the Telegraph are reporting something, doesn't necessarily mean it will actually happen.

They, along with others, have reported all sorts of nonsense in the past. I believe CC is right, but I believe that it will be changing in one form or another

I think it's OK on NTL Digital because you can press the red button for the interactive service. But half the time the reports always say ITV News, Channel 4 News and Channel 5 News so this doesn't cost that much to run. Plus I think NTL run or have a share in it as well.

IF it did close, what will happen to Channel M, The Oxford Channel and those local channels that heavily carry the ITN Channel in their schedules?

ITN isn't going anywhere. Cross Thingy, that mini-relaunch sounds interesting, could you give us any more info, ie when it'll be etc?

Cheers! Smile

Well that's jolly good news. The spirit of Christmas must've hit the ITN Building.

Lovely.

Now, Mr ITN person, this is the season for giving and I am urging you to give us more information about this relaunch.

I do hope we'll see tickers, info panels etc. More CNN Headline News-esq than Sky News.

Let's just hope they get rid of those crappy astons.

This from today's Guardian - ITN to prepare a rescue package for the News Channel as its boss quits. Plus some dreadful news about the future of ITV news...

I'm sorry to say but there is no need for the ITV Morning News on a weekday because look at the schedule

5.30 ITV Morning News
6.00 GMTV: The News Hour!!!!!!!

If not GMTV needs to start at 5.30 if you ask me!

How long has it been on at 5.30am is it since the whole ITV Network went 24 hours in 1988?

Err... Bigtime franchise re-negotiations would be needed if GMTV were given an extra 30 mins of ITV1 airtime... Don't see that happening anytime soon.

GMTV is effectively given the entire ITV1 network from 0600-0925 and get all the ad revenue for this period. (The regional news is separately contracted between ITV1 franchises and GMTV,and in the case of Northern Ireland I think ITN rather than UTV are contracted but I may be wrong)

After all an 0530 start would give GMTV an extra 30 mins of potential advertising potential, at the expense of the ITV1 daytime franchises...
