I think photos were allowed - plenty of people were getting photos taken with the Tardis outside the entrance.

Anyone with camcorders?

When I went a few years ago, they said you could only take pictures outside and in the "interactive studio", but not around the building. They also said no camcorders either.

Yet, I went to BBC Manchester a few weeks ago, and you were fine to take photos most of the time.

It's all very over-priced. All the DVDs and general merchandise are more expensive than on the high street. The BBC Breakfast mug which I won in the quiz (!) would have cost £7 I think. Oddly you're allowed to go behind the counter to browse the other products they have.

Annoyingly you're not allowed to use the BBC Cafe which is right next to the shop, but then again, they have to escort you out of the building so you can't expect them to wait! Very Happy

One thing that surprised me was the fact that there was a WH Smith and a Costa within the building itself.

What do you mean why? Usually the stars clear away when they know that there are public trips going on.

I think he knows...
It's the new internet geek fad to attach fail to something that's... well, a "failure".

I saw Jimmy Carr in the foyer in front of the security door thingys. He said he'd liked to have gone on the tour and I giggled helplessly even though I'm not particularly a fan! I think he was there to film 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Yeah, that was it. They seemed quite strict about it.

I was asking why you put elipses at the end of the post.

I'm pretty sure it implied, "... and he's dead ".

That's what I inferred, anyway.

The shop is a rather odd layout - I think it's more that the counter is right in the middle of it, but it does have the appearance of being a counter service store.
As others have mentioned, it's got small amount of BBC merchandise ('The Archers' wooden spoons, anyone?), and pretty much the complete selection of BBC DVDs and CDs. The prices are getting more in line with the high street - I got an I'm Alan Partridge DVD for £6.99 today, marked down from £19.99, and a pound cheaper than Tesco.

Photography in the building is generally not allowed - I think tour groups are permitted to take photos on the 'Star Terrace' - where there's the TARDIS and a nice view of the side of studio 1, and also in the Tours mock-up studio in the basement. Even staff are meant to get a permit to take photos elsewhere.
