If you want to see how the news channels covered this this morning...

A selection of captures...
Prior to this there was just a lot of talking over maps of Turkey on News 24, and an aston over recorded reports on other stories on Sky with a recap in between other reports. Details very sketchy. First thing I captured was Declan on News 24 saying how it had affected the stock market already...

^^^ ITV News report on ITV1 at 10:30 ^^^
News channels continue to loop footage, some live shots from the British Consulate, occasional cut to political correspondants in Downing Street and coverage of President Bush's arrival. BBC took a title sequence at 11, Sky did but did get a proper recorded report out. I can't imagine the pressure they must have gone through to make it but it was obviously done in less than half an hour.

Can't believe it took Sky over an hour to get hold of Elif!

Just a couple of questions:

1) Why do Sky often turn to Fox when major coverage starts? Doesn't it just, well, show their coverage up. Surely they could provide just as good (scrap that - better) coverage than their US counterparts? I can understand if they wanted to be 'first' with a correspondent but then that would not technically be accurate would it - Fox were first, Sky just tuned in!

and 2) I see Simon McCoy there - when does he leave Sky for BBC News 24 then? (I don't have access to digital at the moment you see) Will he be there for the 1st Dec re-launch or whenever it is?

Good caps though.

Yes it did - just before 'This Morning'. The normal news ident appeared then straight to ITV News Report static image, followed by Nick.

Yes, he should be there for the relaunch. Which means he'll be jumping from one job to the next within a couple of weeks! Usually these moves mean about 2 months gardening leave for the presenter.

Sky used Fox's pictures (not their audio) for about two minutes the whole morning, just beacuse they had a feed from a different Turkish channel (Star) than the one Sky were feeding from (NTV, which came via AFP if I heard correctly) when theirs disappeared for a while.

Couldn't find the report on Digital Spy since it changed earlier today but I though is said that he was moving in the new year not at the launch, was thinking the same thing about a break in between presenting

Sky News presenter Simon McCoy will join the revamped BBC News 24 from the New Year as the channel's lead anchor on location during major breaking news stories.

In addition to his duties at News 24, McCoy will also present on the BBC's Breakfast news programme. McCoy, who has recently presented the Sunrise programme on Sky News, said:

"I'm delighted to be joining the BBC. I'm looking forward to working with the team and I'm already used to the early starts!"

Or more inaccurate reading reading by you, perhaps?
