BBC Engineering Info page (Ceefax 698) says

Off Air
ISLES OF SCILLY . all TV . . until 03/08

Does this mean they will have no TV until the weekend, or can they pick up a signal from Redruth or one of its relays on the mainland?

Hi Terry

Yes, Redruth should normally be feasible with a decent aerial (being mainly over a sea path helps).

Possibly also Caradon Hill during the high pressure weather conditions.

Carodon Hill is bloody miles away from Scilly! You have to be kidding me?

Ah, now, not necessarily ... the field strength from Caradon Hill can occasionally vie with Redruth because, although far more distant, it's both more powerful and on lower UHF channels - during high-pressure weather conditions one can get 'tropospheric lifts' and 'ducting' which can cause surprisingly long-range reception.

Normally, of course, one would only really be 'in with a chance' with Redruth, but just now the conditions are right.

Has anybody tried it (wish i was there!)?
