Here’s the Minister’s decision relating to RTE2+1, which will operate as a part time service with hours similar to the current RTE One+1, and for the move of RTE One+1 to a 24 Hour service.

Nothing official from RTE yet as to when these services are to launch, though apparently there is a media report (which I haven’t seen) of 13th February .

Shame they can't use some of the money used to launching this pointless channel and channel it into their news output.

People keep moaning about RTEs news output. I’d place a decent bet that RTE show more hours of news and current affairs each week on RTE1 than any other broadcaster in Europe does on their main channel. If you look at the schedule there is nothing but news and current affairs right across the week. This is all the more amazing when you consider they don’t have a breakfast TV programme.

Connection problems between studios has happened before on these big shows. X Factor is the worse, with problems between their former home Fountain Studios and BT Tower in London, and their new home of LH2 Studios to BT Tower. Strictly Come Dancing has had issues, even though they are made in Elstree Studios right in the heart of the BBC Studioworks location, but even in 2019 these technical issues can occur.

Hi

Strictly is not made at the BBC studioworks site in Elstree formally the ATV studios and where EastEnders is shot, but is made at Elstree Studios which is next door to Tesco. on the George Lucas Stage I believe. and I would say there is at least a mile between these sites.

Important to point out that Strictly doesn't come from the BBC Elstree site. The BBC Elstree site has one large general purpose studio, Studio D, and the EastEnders and Holby production facilities. That site has decent connectivity, as used for BBC Election shows and Children in Need, and a degree of resilient power on-site.

Strictly instead comes from part of the George Lucas stage at the Elstree Film and TV Studios over the road from BBC Elstree (Technically I believe it's described as George Lucas 2). It IS confusing that BBC Studioworks operate from two separate sites in Borehamwood - but it is important not to confuse them.

When Strictly first moved from TV Centre to Elstree Film and TV, the connectivity from the BBC Studioworks operation at Elstree Film and TV to the BBC Elstree Studios site, and the local power facilities, were not deemed resilient enough for a BBC One prime time live show, so additional generator power and, I believe, satellite reserve circuits, were installed until more permanent resilient facilities were available (I believe there is now connectivity from Elstree Film and TV to both BBC Elstree and BT via separate diverse routes).

To clarify, Strictly Come Dancing is made in the George Lucas Stage 2 at Elstree Studios, by BBC Studioworks, who in partnership with Elstree Film and TV Studios produce Strictly from that stage, linking it up to the communications hub at BBC Elstree across the street from Elstree Film and TV Studios.

It was due to the departure of the BBC from Television Centre to Elstree which caused the BBC to have to base themselves in BBC Elstree, whilst knowing BBC Elstree would not be able to have enough studios for the productions they needed to produce, which is why the partnership agreement deal was made between BBC Studioworks and Elstree Film and TV Studios. The current deal is set to expire in March 2020, but it is nearly 99.9% certain it will be renewed again for another three years in 2020.

That's not the case at all. RTE1 does have a lot of news and current affairs but most other decent PSB broadcasters around Europe do as much if not more. Most PSB's don't close their TV News operation before 10pm as RTE now seems to. Plus in this Multi-Channel Age, it's not comparing like for like. RTE 1 has an acceptable amount of output 10 months in the year, RTE 2 has practically nothing at all. CBBC has more news and current affairs output than RTE 2 on a normal day.

RTE News need to invest in producing a Morning News on RTE 1, to provide an alternative to the fluff Ireland AM provide over on Virgin Media One. The reason RTE One do not produce a proper breakfast programme is the selfish reason from RTE Radio 1 not to take away listeners from their cherished Morning Ireland radio show. That reasoning needs to stop, and radio needs to stop getting top priority over television news.

RTE needs to restore a late night news on RTE 2, providing a proper, youth orientated news programme around 11.00pm. Bringing back the name "News Night" and using it for the new programme would be a good start.

They have the opportunity now with the new look to launch tomorrow, they should kick start it now.

RTE News Now needs to either be bolstered or closed down, and this half heart approach needs to end, as it is costing them money running a service which is tired and attracts very little audiences.

Have we see what the new look RTÉ News will look like yet? I caught some of the Nuacht RTÉ on Saturday and they seemed to have a look that was different to what RTÉ News usually has, and from what I remember they shared the exact same look just obviously the language changed to suit. Or have they split with separate looks now? I'm not sure what peoples reactions would be if the main news was using the presentation package that Nuacht was using.

The Nuacht now shares the same titles, graphics and set as Nuacht TG4

The new look is scheduled to launch at the 6.01pm bulletin tomorrow. RTE Nuacht comes from TG4 studios in Galway which is why it looks different.

The last main news bulletin from the temporary sets will be 4.00pm update on RTE 1. The One O'Clock News is scheduled for 15 minutes tomorrow, and then reverts back to 30 minute format from Tuesday 29th January 2019.

I can't wait to see how they've done up Studio 3.
€1.7 million it cost them to do up the whole thing
