What’s very striking about that image is how different UTV and HTV’s listings are. Only news programmes and one prime time drama aired simultaneously.

It's has a few other interesting and significant things.

8pm BBC 1 It Ain't Half Hot Mum : Something unlikely to ever be shown today
9:25pm BBC 1 Abigail's Party : One of the landmark TV dramas of the 70s
6:30 pm RTE The Rolf Harris Show : Surprised that's not been pixelated out !

Not TV related again, but I was driving through Caernarfon a couple of weeks ago alongside the coast, I could very easily pick up RTÉ Radio 1 and 2FM clearly in my car, for some distance. But that's for another thread...

There was a story about people living in the Scilly Isles, who could not receive any of the UK channels, due hills and mountains blocking their signal, however they could receive a perfect RTE 1 and RTE 2 signal from Ireland over the Irish sea. This was in 1985. So this meant they relied on Irish television. They could still receive all the UK radio stations. Wow.

There are no hills and mountains on the Scilly Islands !

The islands have had their own FM and TV transmitter since 1969.

Sounds like an island myth, though I wouldn't be surprised if you can receive Irish transmissions there,
I spent some time in Cornwall and RTE Radio from Mt Leinster was quite easy.

Car radio reception of RTE radio stations all along the Cardigan Bay coast in Wales is very easy. The RDS flips you between Mt Leinster and Kippure

RTE received a letter from a couple in the area, saying they were not served well by the UK transmitters and could only receive RTE 1 and RTE 2.

I always wondered why we got listings for HTV. Back then I thought it was so random but makes sense now that there's overspill from wales. Amazing how far signals can go.

On the Cable network in my part of Dublin we had HTV until November 1st 1982 .

We lost it the next day for some reason Wink

Was it replaced with UTV? When did cable start in your area of Dublin?

Mid 73 was when our area got it and I think we were fairly quick in signing up .

The line up was RTE , BBC1 , BBC2 , UTV and HTV . RTE 2 from 1978 .

And that was the line up until November 1st 1982 because there was a new station starting the next day

We did get HTV back in 1987? for a week or 2 when UTV was on strike

I love how Dublin viewers for more channels than us here in Britain, and with cable I assume they were crystal clear?

Ryan Tubridy has said that RTÉ's London edition of The Late Late Show in October will be broadcast from Wogan House.

No, I think he meant his RTE Radio 1 show will be broadcast from BBC Radio 2 studios at Wogan House. There are no television studios or theatre at Wogan House which can accommodate an audience of 1,000 for The Late Late Show at Wogan House, impossible, I think The Late Late Show will be coming from a theatre in West London.

His actual words from RTE Website were, as part of this article - Tubridy will also be presenting his RTÉ Radio 1 show from London on Thursday October 11 and Friday October 12. "We're going to be broadcasting from, rather appropriately, Wogan House," he said.

I think they will have to use a London theatre, to fit in 1000 people. I wonder what one they will use, or maybe the George Lucas Stage 1 at Elstree?

And, you can't get 1,000 in the BH Radio Theatre..
I mused over where the late late show would be live from a couple of months back.

Isn't GL Stage 1 locked out for Strictly or do they use GL2?
Plus, Elstree is not what was quoted, in that it would be a from a 'London' location.

It's a bit of a push to get 1,000 into TC1.

So, it's either a West End theatre that is between productions - or they are going to an arena. The SSE Arena at Wembley, had a couple of free Fridays next month when I looked at the 'What's on' page on the website.
