I think it’s been explained before here about the terms of the brand licensing agreement and why they can’t do that.
Looks like all that’s going to happen with the news service is a relit set and a redoing of the titles in the exact same style as before, with the “3” removed, and recoloured lower thirds. Basically a find and replace purple with red.

And what is the likelihood at this stage of Sir Richard doing that? He’s going to wake up in the morning and decide he wants to get back in the mobile phone business, or set up a TV station or a cable TV company? Likelihood there’s a non-compete clause in such circumstances anyway. Or Malone is going to do something to embarrass the Virgin brand so much that he’d be justified in terminating? Again, not likely.
What’s far more likely, in my view, is that Malone will want out eventually. Liberty has already sold a large chunk of the UPC business off in eastern and Central Europe, and reduced its involvement in its original Dutch business (now VodafoneZiggo) dramatically. At some point Virgin Media will likely be sold off, perhaps to another operator which may have its own brand, and they’ll want to put their own stamp on it, and stop paying Branson licensing fees. But until then, the chances of Sir Richard doing the walking are between slim and none.

It's the same bucket, it's just been painted red.
So this is the last ever day for the name TV3. Tomorrow is the big rebrand, or same ****, different bucket approach by Virgin Media?

The website, or at least the mobile version, already seems to be rebranded.

And again, just like their TV3 site, their news section is dreadful. Just uploaded the latest news bulletin and that is it. Come on! Virgin Media claimed they cared about their news output, well for God sake do more online where most people get their news from now. It is saying something where RTE News online is far superior than Virgin Media News online.

Couldn't they have at least tried to get vmtv.ie or vm.tv instead of that long URL?
I will be home this weekend and will be able to see for myself how the channels look on screen but from seeing the TV guide for what's on for the re-brand it just looks like more of the same rubbish. Surely the re-brand should have been their opportunity to restructure the channels and give them focus. They just repeat old ITV daytime filler and gameshows all day now. Do we really need two extra channels for that?
