That promo could have been used as a promo for a new Virgin Media channel here in the UK. Totally devoid of any Irish feel at all. In all honesty, they could have simply named it ITV Ireland and it would be more suitable considering the vast amount of ITV shows on that channel each day. It won't work, but I doubt if the TV3 name will return, even if this is a failure.
The 3News hub has simply been renamed the Virgin Media News Hub according to their online schedules. Apart from that, they are dying to say they are putting more Irish home produced shows into the schedules, but the vast majority of their daily line up remains totally unchanged from TV3, Ireland Am, Elaine, Six O'Clock Show, Tonight Show, nothing has changed, it is the same line up, maybe with a new look for each of them, otherwise the same stays.
Looking at clips of Ireland AM this week, it appears they were outside until Wednesday, returning to the studio today with the soft area and the catwalk back in use.
“For a national broadcaster to launch another prime-time news bulletin is a big deal,”
He said this about the new 8 O clock bulletin. Now it would be a big deal if it wasn't just a re-reading of the 5.30 bulletin which I strongly suspect it will be. But it's not a new bulletin, it's the 7 O Clock news moved from Be3/VM3 to TV3/VM1.
On top of that TV3 had an 8 pm News which they valued so much they dropped it like a hot potato as soon as they got the soaps back.
It's almost as if they've only pretend broadcasting up to this point, that no one was watching so saying everything is new and fresh is okay because no one will notice, And to be fair outside of the Soaps and Sport, almost no one will.
The problem is this is all just news presentation and no change elsewhere. It is just TV3 with a different name. They had an opportunity to to relaunch and re-energise this network, they could have really changed it for the good, but all they have done is a redecorating job and that is it. Same ****, different bucket.
I want to move away talk about Virgin Media Ireland for the moment to talk about RTÉ for a while. I only realized today by looking at a small poster from Dunnes Stores in Roscommon Town that, at long last for the National Lottery in Ireland & RTÉ, their lottery show Winning Streak is getting a new look this year with a new studio, new logo, new scratch cards & new studio games mixed with some old ones as part of RTÉ's new season. The prize fund will be increased for the show when being produced in the studio. There will be no change to the presenters; Marty Whelan & Sinead Kennedy will still present the show.
The first episode of the new series will return on RTÉ One from the 22nd of September.
The new games featured on Winning Streak which will appear from the start of the show as follows.
Car Keys
Roll for Riches
Play or Pay
Winfall
Patience, High Low Share, Wheel Reveal & The Grand Prize Wheel will probably remain the same for this new look. Games like Money Match & Pick a Prize have been scrapped. It also looks like that the Fantastic Five format that was present from past series is also likely to be scrapped or edited too for this new look.
The Luxury Cruise ticket entry draw will still remain unchanged for the new series.
Here is a short preview of what is to come for Winning Streak from the lottery.ie website

I don't think they will be moving studio, as RTE does not have room for them. The show is recorded on a Friday night in Studio 1 at Donnybrook. This is done so the lottery can make sure if any technical mistake happens, they can rectify it before transmission.
There is not another studio available, as Studio 4 on a Friday is used by The Late Late Show. So, I don't think they will get a new studio, unless they are moving out of the main television centre and use a new studio elsewhere, which would be weird for RTE who is looking to cost cut productions at all costs.
I hope with the new look they finally show the entire thing in HD. Some clips and inserts they show (usually of prizes or the big wheel moving by itself) are still in SD (and different resolution which you can spot as the black bars appear at the sides when they show it) and the graphics don't look very HD either. They might have been waiting for a new look to come in to re-film those little inserts though. I guess we will find out in a months time.
I thought Winning Streak was filmed on Saturday afternoon for broadcast Saturday night? I'm pretty sure on a few occasions things have been referenced that would only have been known if the show was filmed a few hours before transmission.

Marty Whelan said they filmed it on a Friday. I remember he appeared as a guest on The Late Late Show, and he said they had just finished filming that Saturday's show in Studio 1, next to Studio 4 where the Late Late was made in.
