The Late Late Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread

RTÉ One had one of their Christmas idents up tonight before the start of the RTÉ 9 O'Clock News.

They are showing them because the annual Late Late Toy Show is on at 9.35pm

This years RTÉ One Christmas idents follow the same theme as last year, using much of the same footage. New endboards for the idents have been added including a Christmas wreath and Christmas tree.

I only discovered their christmas 2016 idents a few weeks ago and I think they hands down beat any of the UK idents.

However, I don't like the 2017 edit of them. Leave them alone xD

TV3.

They really need to sort out their audio ducker, that sounds bloody awful and jarring. It really shouldn't mute the entire audio of the video. The ident itself is pleasant enough, reminds me of this:

Brilliant Christmas ident from TV3. But why do they have to mute the ident when the announcer is talking (ITV used to do this briefly in 2013)? Can't we at least have some audio from the ident?

The 3e Christmas ident is also very impressive. Not sure if Be3 has done anything, but I wouldn't get too excited based on its regular pres.

I was recording the Formula E race this morning on 3e and much to my surprise I find that Tv3 channels still open with the "3 is a magic number" piece that they used on launch. Obviously with a different end card to show the three channels current idents.

I haven’t seen that in ages - not being generally up at that time of night - but it doesn’t surprise me that it’s still in use, I had certainly seen a version with the first purple logo. (It’s also the only piece of presentation where the original “tvthree” logotype survives).

What does surprise me though is that you saw it on 3e - it certainly wasn’t initially used there.

There doesn't seem to be a good copy of it on YouTube with the original 1998 TV3 logo, but here is a version someone got from an overnight recording (skip to 12:28 if the video doesn't start there, don't think time specific start time links work on TVF)
