I thought Karina was an RTÉ announcer who also presents weather forecasts outside of primetime RTÉ One - like Nuala Carey? Confused

Yes. Sorry you're right on that point. She does the lunchtime, European & World forecasts on RTÉ.

In other news. I heard an interesting bit of news about TV3. They are thinking to change their name over to Virgin Media in 2018.

They've only just given their three channels a makeover (including rebranding one of them), as well as their news bulletins.

Why change again so soon? Confused Also, the TV3 brand *is* very well-known...

I certainly can't see TG4 changing *their* name in the foreseeable future.

Indeed, they've got a good clear brand in TV3, 3e and be3, why complicate it now.

Changing their name to Virgin Media would be utter disaster. Virgin Media is not a proper name, as Virgin Media is the provider company and not a channel, a company which operates in the UK and Ireland, which would cause confusion.

How would they rename Be3 and 3E, it can't all be Virgin Media. Typical pointless discussion which will result in chaos.

I guess it would mean Virgin Media 1, 2 and 3 as branding, trying to be like Sky 1, 2 and RTE 1, 2. Up to them if they want to go down that path. I sense failure though.

I wonder if Tony Hanway is aware that there is a fairly significant number of people who are still annoyed about Opal Fruits becoming Starburst, nearly twenty years on... Embarassed Laughing Wink

Virgin Media would be the corporate name. Channels would be Virgin 1, Virgin 2, and Virgin 3. And Virgin 1 wasn't exactly a successful brand in the UK... also, V2 (a likely abbreviation) sounds like a missile and V3 sounds too much like TV3, which could cause confusion.

TV3 could be at risk of losing their licence if they have their channels withdrawn from Saorview. I don't see this as a good move either as there could be a lot of uproar about it coming from the Irish public. One point that I can mention is that TV3 haven't yet begun their new exclusive coverage for the men's Six Nations Rugby 2018 yet until next February. That tournament has to be shown free to air on Saorview, on specific orders from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, because it has 98% coverage to those viewers with an aerial.

There could be other reasons as to why this move from TV3 would not be a good idea such as when they did their rebrand of their 3 channels which include 3e & be3. It could be the shortest rebrand ever in TV3's career & an expensive waste of money on VM's part.

I don't like the names 3e and be3. I'm not sure what the difference is in the stations.

I don't think it's a bad idea to refresh the names. Times change. I hope they'll not go with Virgin 1... they need a bit more thought. I also wonder if this is going to tie in with their plans to show tv3 in NI?

And where has it been suggested they'd withdraw from Saorview?
