Slightly off topic for this site, but there are reports that RTE 2fm is to get a new name and brand identity this month. A teaser trailer has been aired featuring the numeral "2" in a retro font. Some speculation (and no more than that) that the new name may not feature the RTE logo at all, which to me would be licence for RTE2 to revert to Network 2 at a future point.

The ad shows the new 2 logo and the letters RTÉ and FM disappear. I don't think this is supposed to mean the station will just be called '2' but plenty of people are speculating or hinting that this is what will happen. Likely that they are trying to get the point across that a new look is coming with new shows and presenters and slight change in style to make it more like Radio 1 I believe.
I fully expect it to still be called RTÉ 2FM or maybe just 2FM. They wouldn't dare call it just '2' as people would get very confused.
"That show is on tonight on 2" could refer to the TV channel RTÉ 2 or the radio station with its new name. They'd be mad to just call it 2 and have, in time, Radio 1 renamed as just 1.
Considering that RTÉ 2 only recently relaunched itself with a new logo and look, I'd be surprised if it went back to Network 2. Then again, the relaunch hasn't worked out for them and viewing figures as just as low as they were, so maybe returning it to Network 2 would work after all! It certainly was a better channel with a more interesting look in the late 90's.

I noticed that....
I actually think RTE 2fm's brand is spot on - it doesn't need to be changed
I would be really surprised if RTE 2 became Network 2 again. The only reason it ever became Network 2 was due to low figures and struggled to find the audience and its identity.
But then it became N2 and then RTE 2 again because that rebrand did the job of telling the audience the difference between the RTE One and 2.
So I struggle to see the benefit of reverting it - it's been nearly 11 years now since it was known as N2 but that's not to say RTE won't just do it for the hell of it.

If I was to speculate, I'd speculate that it will be "RTE Radio 2" officially but always referred to simply as "2" on air. But while speculation is fun, RTE are being very tight lipped about what's actually happening and, one DJ who mentioned it in an interview aside, the teaser trailer is the only public indication that a rebrand is happening at all.

That's a good shout actually.
RTE Radio 2 became 2FM and RTE 2 became Network 2. But y'know... 2FM is how it's known to everyone - It'd be a shame to lose that identity.
