What's most worrying for TV3 is almost no one else noticed that they had gone off air Shocked

I was at TG4 a few years ago when it fell off the air, (to such an extent that the analogue transmitters shut themselves down) Admittedly it was just after cutting to France 24 for the overnight sustaining feed. We were
doing some work on the Pres Suite, but the attempt to patch the France 24 feed directly to the Tx output went horribly wrong. Anyway, not a peep from any internet forum, and no phone calls (except RTENL's control room !)

To be fair, there's a bit of a difference no one noticing late at night and at primetime. Now if it had happened to UTV Ireland at the same time the internet would possibly have melted.

Virgin Media's acquisition of TV3 was completed yesterday, with David McRedmond leaving the station.

I would assume there will be a lot of changes over the coming months with virgin getting rid of what they consider dead wood.

I thought Virgin pulled out of the channel ownership business (when they sold Living to Sky), so why have they decided to buy TV3?

Liberty Global has bought TV3, and I'm assuming they've chosen to place it under the umbrella of Virgin Media Ireland (which they own). Makes sense.

Yes. After the acquisition of Virgin Media by Liberty, it internally transfered UPC Ireland so as to make it part of Virgin Media instead of UPC Broadband. (This was a reunion of sorts, since large parts of UPC Ireland had once been the Irish operations of NTL). The acquisition of TV3 was done through UPC Ireland, which has recently been renamed Virgin Media to match its parent's branding.

I wouldn't necessarily take it as a given that Virgin Media in the UK will stay out of content either, since the decision to get out of content was taken before the Liberty take over. That said Liberty had also quit the content business when they sold Chellomedia, and the acquisition of TV3 represents an about turn of sorts on both counts.

RTE One HD and RTE One+1 launched on Sky in Ireland this evening, though it appears there is still no sign of RTE News Now.

Edit: Though RTE One+1 is on the EPG, it appears to be stuck on the "Programmes start at 7:00pm" card.

And they have not yet appeared on the EPG in Northern Ireland but they are viewable in Other Channels.

RTE One+1 did eventually start working.

Don't know how readily available the info is but how have UTV and TV3 compared over the year with their share and top rated shows, and how does this compare to TV3 last year?

I read from some interesting posts on DS and boards.ie regarding UTV Ireland on Sky.

They have a Catch-up service available to Sky Ireland customers that is being rolled out on some of their boxes from today.

TV3 introduced its Christmas presentation on Saturday 19th. New presentation has been launched this year in keeping with with the pres introduced back in January. The TV3 logo in the idents has been replaced by Christmas symbols (Tree and Snowflake).
Coverage now available on Presentation Archive. I will upload a clip of the programme menu later in the week.
