That's mostly TV3's own fault, if they had paid their bills on time in the past the current formula for stations paying for Saorview would probably be very different. However, It would be an extra 1.5 million to go to HD appox a year. While that's a large amount, it would probably mean much larger audiences...
I've tried looking for some more information on this but I'm not really sure what to look for, can someone explain how this works, please? Any channel that wants to broadcast on one of the Saorview multiplexes has to pay an equal share of €2million, divided between all the channels being carried on it? Do RTÉ have to pay or are they exempt?
The rate card for Saorview, which guarentees 2rn a certain income from each multiplex no matter how many channels are on it, makes it very difficult for channels that aren't owned by RTE to join the platform.
