First time an Irish channel has gone free to air on Sky satellite I believe?

The First Irish Station to go Free to Air on Sky this decade was Irish TV. (it's unlikely anyone would ever pay for it!) TV3 are not going Free to Air on Sky. You'll have to at least pay a basic subscription to get the station like RTE2 HD. It's not going to do their viewing figures much good if they're not on Saorview HD as well. Over 20% of Households in Ireland have FTA Satellite. Practically all of those will turn over to ITV for the World Cup as their HD picture (and indeed the SD picture) are 10 times better than the Saorview SD.

Was channel hopping last night and came across Jeremy Kyle USA on UTV Ireland. Not only was it in widescreen (which ITV themselves don't even seem to show it in) but it was also completely uncut with F's and MF's being thrown around willy nilly. When did they start doing this?

Came across this article from UTV MD Michael Wilson on thejournal.ie

http://www.thejournal.ie/michael-wilson-utv-interview-2232322-Jul2015/

One thing noted for me was acquiring the sports rights.

He said that getting those sports rights would be expensive and would not be got until they were back in profit????? Shocked

The thing is Michael IMO is that when a channel acquires big sporting rights; they will be a huge return from it's advertising revenue.

This guy doesn't even know that when ITV had acquired the shared rights with the BBC for The Six Nations Rugby, which will be shown UTV NI from next year, he may not even be considering a separate deal to show even some of of the matches on it's southern channel particularly when the Irish rights of the tournaments are going to be for grabs again in a very short time.

He has said that some new programmes will be included namely a feature length drama called Pilgrimage & a programme presented by Daniel & Majella O'Donnell who are doing a tour of Irish Country Hotels.

The problem with sport rights in Ireland is the small Market. Outside of the GAA, The World Cup and the European Championships, the rest of them will only end up losing you money. TV3 according to themselves will lose money (about a Million) on the Rugby World Cup, The Six Nations doesn't even break even for RTE. I'm not sure what sports you could buy outside of those three that would actually make sense.

RTÉ 2's look is still terrible. I thought these new idents were in a new style. They've just extended it. Absolutely awful.

That 'Family' ident is terrible you can literally see a cameraman at the end.

I would have thought the flight case, against the bookcase behind the father was worse.

When did Ireland AM get a refresh, if anyone wants to know what TV:am might look like ten years ago ... take a look.

The camera man and flight case makes more sense when you watch the overall advert from which the idents were taken from.
