People would pay €85 for that?

Some would, it looks like a test event to be honest, See if enough individuals turn up to make it worth their while to do it again. No doubt some marketing person has come up with this and thinks it's easy money. (and we're currently at peak Celtic Tiger 2 so it might be for now) However, 9 times out of 10 these things only break even or make a slight loss.

It's different if you're This Morning doing shows, they have an audience that isn't mostly in Nursing Homes and also 10's of millions of people within 90 minutes of a venue.

Is something up with RTÉ 1 tonight? They are showing Winning Streak but it is labelled as HD and it’s on the HD channel but the picture is definitely not HD. It appears to be a new episode so should be in HD but it’s definitely SD, complete with different black bars at the sides depending on which camera is being used.

Bigger demand for all the studios today, rugby match, followed by a football qualifier followed by gaelic games (though that might have been anchored on location, I didn’t see) plus the news, plus Ray D'Arcy. Only so much HD equipment available so something had to give.

GAA was on location. The other sport programmes - including the rugby highlights currently on RTE 2 - had studio-based presentation from Montrose.

'Winning Streak' definitely not in HD tonight - assuming it's still based in Studio 1 though, which is supposed to be HD-equipped?

I still reckon the bumper sports day stole the HD equipment out of studio 1.

It could well be that S1 cameras were redeployed. But that doesn't explain the graphics, which also didn't seem to be HD.

I suspect you're right, that the amount of live sport today had some impact. But would be interesting to know the specifics.

Winning Streak is never in HD.

I'm sure that programme was in HD earlier in the year. I have a few recordings in the archive but don't have the time to hunt them out. But I do have a recording from last week which is on a readily accessible device - and it's in the same woeful quality as last night's.

Emmerdale & Coronation Street have been put back in their regular schedules on Virgin Media One for next Tuesday & Wednesday night during the next match week of the live UFEA Champions League matches. There is also a 2013 repeat of Midsomer Murders to add to those nights. It's to give back ratings in those slots lost by the airing of their coverage of The UFEA Champions League matches taking place on those two nights. The Champions League matches by then will be switched over to Virgin Media Two next Tuesday & Wednesday.
