Ellen continues to air shortly after 10.00am each day on RTE 1, it appears the early evening re-run did not do well in the ratings and it has been dropped, and the morning broadcast will remain, as it is popular, up against This Morning on Virgin Media One (ITV).

Where are the figures saying Ellen is popular at 10am? Any shows on before midday are just place holders on RTE 1, It's the only time of day that Virgin Media One beats RTE1 hands down, with This Morning. Morning Progammes up to One O Clock have been regularly dropped for Dail Coverage or News Coverage in the past and that policy looks like continuing. I have seen people complain that Shortland Street and Doctors have been Deferred. I have never seen any comment about the cheap US shows shown before 12.

Putting Old episodes of Ellen on at 5pm on RTE 2 shows how out of touch Management are in RTE. The new schedule is an improvement of sorts.

If RTE are not airing it at 5.00pm, then the reason is that the edition did not do well in the ratings - do you understand the concept of it? RTE would not dump the show from 5.00pm if it were not performing reasonably well.

Please remember unlike the BBC, RTE does have to attract advertising too as well as their licence fee, so commercial reasons effects where and when a show is placed on RTE channels.

Yes, I do understand the concept of it... That's why I said that Management were out of touch... The point being that anyone with any knowledge of the Broadcast environment would know beforehand that Ellen was Never going to do well in the ratings at that time, especially as that time has been aimed at kids for the last 30 or so years.

If you're going to criticise comments you could read them first. You still haven't provided numbers to show Ellen is popular in the morning. Possibly because they don't exist. If you can provide the numbers that's great. If not, don't worry about it as I won't be responding to your posts again Mr King.

Ryan Tubridy said the usual early December Toy Show couldn't be possible this year. So like last year, it is late November.

The future is not looking good for RTE judging by this article - https://www.rte.ie/news/2019/0906/1074361-rte-finances-note/

It seems big changes will have to be made at the Irish national broadcaster, if it is to survive the big change in the Irish licence fee in a few years time.

"RTÉ staff have been told that the broadcaster's current financial situation is unlike anything it has seen before and that it is reassessing everything it does."

Could this mean the closure of a number of their television and radio stations? I get the sense the axe will certainly fall on RTÉ News Now very soon.

My guess is it could mean the closure of RTE Two and the closure of some DAB stations.

Ultimately RTE could become the first example of the scaling back of large European public broadcasters. The BBC has needed to take similar action for years but tends to buckle under public pressure. In the long term I believe almost all European PSBs will operate with one TV channel, 1 or 2 radio stations and a small digital offering of some kind. We shall see!

RTE 2 really? I would have thought that would stay, as it is home to all of their sporting coverage. I suspect RTE Junior, RTE News Now and many digital radio stations will be for the chop.

How has this happened? They have a license fee plus adverts?!

Everything else would go before RTE2

Firstly it’s a disgrace that the Irish government is too frightened to put in place a funding system for RTÉ that is fit for the modern broadcasting landscape. They are effectively killing RTÉ by stealth. We will miss it terribly if we lose it in my opinion. That been said if I was Dee Forbes I would close RTÉ News Now and most of the RTÉ digital radio stations with the exceptions perhaps of RTÉ Gold and RTÉ Junior. The only programme I would miss on RTÉ News Now would be Morning Ireland. It should be moved to RTE 1. I would also cut the salaries of the top presenters. This wouldn’t save the amount of money that some people claim but it would generate good PR for RTÉ. Looking ahead I would open negotiations with Virgin Media to share coverage of Euro 2020 with them as they did in 2016. Lots of other things will be necessary but these are some ideas that I’ve thought of. I wouldn’t close RTÉ 2 either and I hope it can be saved.

Presenters are always made the scapegoats but their salaries tend to be a drop in the ocean of the overall budget.

RTE One, RTE Two, RTE Junior, RTE Radio 1, RTE 2FM, RTE Lyric FM and RTE Raidio na GaelTachta - That should be the core channels for RTE to focus on and axe the rest in my opinion.

RTE News Now is not a proper news channel. Most of it is just the RTE One news bulletins and around 9 hours a day is simulcast from Euronews. What a waste of money.

The Late Late Show back tonight, missing its opening titles (which have apparently changed, but more below) but instead featuring a number of emergency services bands and choirs playing the theme song. (“To Whom it Concerns” by Chris Andrews, and yes they sang the chorus!).

The bad....as I say there was no opening titles but they seemingly have changed, as the break bumpers now feature a really cheesy animation of the Late Late Show owl, which is a bit hilarious to be honest.
