They can use “Virgin TV” (as long as they only use it to refer to the cable TV service and not the content business) and “Virgin Mobile”. I think we discussed it here before and it seems to all boil down to the original deal between NTL and Virgin Group and what the terms of that arrangement were.

A lot of people say "Virgin Media Three" when they're actually referring to "Virgin Media One". They're terrible names for channels.
Yeah, having numbered channels was a bad idea considering the network's previous name was TV Three. They should've known people would call the main channel 3 instead of 1!

Why not VM One, VM Two and VM Three? Short and sweet?

Apparently they have to use the full “Virgin Media” name under the terms of their licensing deal.

It's a bit silly really.

One of these days, the licensing deal will probably end and God knows what they'll rename the channels into next...

Purportedly, the deal runs to 2036, so not any time soon.

Any word of who will replace Mark Cagney on Ireland AM and when they will start?
I’ve seen rumours that it would be Simon Delaney but at the VMTV Upfronts launch the other day he was seen with the Weekend AM team.
Ciara Doherty also posted an Instagram story of her filming a promo a few weeks ago, but she hasn’t said anything about Marks replacement.

On RTÉ2 from this evening; there will be no Ellen at 5pm.

It has been replaced with a double bill of The Simpsons at 4:30pm.

A repeat of Shortland Street will be broadcast on RTÉ2 afterwards from 5:30pm until 6pm.

Ellen continues to air shortly after 10.00am each day on RTE 1, it appears the early evening re-run did not do well in the ratings and it has been dropped, and the morning broadcast will remain, as it is popular, up against This Morning on Virgin Media One (ITV).

Where are the figures saying Ellen is popular at 10am? Any shows on before midday are just place holders on RTE 1, It's the only time of day that Virgin Media One beats RTE1 hands down, with This Morning. Morning Progammes up to One O Clock have been regularly dropped for Dail Coverage or News Coverage in the past and that policy looks like continuing. I have seen people complain that Shortland Street and Doctors have been Deferred. I have never seen any comment about the cheap US shows shown before 12.

Putting Old episodes of Ellen on at 5pm on RTE 2 shows how out of touch Management are in RTE. The new schedule is an improvement of sorts.

If RTE are not airing it at 5.00pm, then the reason is that the edition did not do well in the ratings - do you understand the concept of it? RTE would not dump the show from 5.00pm if it were not performing reasonably well.

Please remember unlike the BBC, RTE does have to attract advertising too as well as their licence fee, so commercial reasons effects where and when a show is placed on RTE channels.
