The IFTA awards are being presented in Dublin tonight... James Nesbitt is anchoring again, and his opening monologue has been some the worst jokes ever... (it is an awards ceremony though).

David Kelly is getting the Lifetime Achievement award but who else will win....?

According to the ITV3 website, the channel will be showing the IFTA ceremony sometime in November, but whether they are taking the RTE programme, and whether or not they will edit out the television sections remains to be seen.

Mark Cagney of Ireland AM on TV3 won the personality of the year award. I feel he deserves it. It was him who was the first face on breakfast telly in ireland, and i feel he should be recognised!!

Although by the end of the evening, I could hear the music played over and over in my head

The Northern contingent will be pleased to know BBC Newsline took best news programme. As mentioned above Mark Cagney of Ireland AM took best television personality after a heavy lobbying campaign on TV3's part. Pure Mule, which contained more dodgey accents than your average episode of Highlander, swept the boards with five awards. Prime Time Investigates took best current affairs while Eddie Hobbes got an award, not for Rip-off Republic, but Show Me The Money. It seems UTV opted out of proceedings again this year. Even Channel 4 managed to pick up an award, with Emer Reynolds getting best director for Shameless.

In the film section Liam Neeson took best actor, Renee Weldon best actress, with Pavee Lackeen best film. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory got best international film, Mickey Rourke best international actor, and Gillian Anderson best international actress.
