It hasn't really been brought up here, but Irelands new entertainment channel, Channel 6 is launching tonight at 8pm on NTL and Chorus (Digital and Analogue) Cable. Yes the channel will be showing alot of repeats and american shows, but I for one am so excited to see a new Irish channel being launched. All of our EPGS have been updated to give it the prime 106 slot (moving BBC2 on digital and MTV on analogue).

I'm not holding out much hope, from the promotion thingies shown the other day it looks to be majorly based on American imports shown during the late 90's with the occasional newish import which may or may not have already been shown on Sky One and/or Paramount Comedy.

I think I saw Family Guy advertised, so I'll hold out hope that they'll show it in a regular time slot and not in a haphazard hither-dither manner that other channels have.

Anyway to pick irish networks up in mainland England? This might have stuff on worth watching.

Interesting...it launches on the 9th anniversary of the UK's Channel 5. Wonder if that was deliberate?

One of most cringeworthy launches I have ever seen - the mock newscast "This is Channel 6 and the news is there is no news!". The CA at 8:30 prior to The Office (:An American Workplace) told us to "prepare to cringe", but nothing in it could possibly have made us cring more than the launch junction.

Having said that Take Six was worthwhile, and as I said elsewhere, is a lot better than its TV3 counterpart Popcorn.

The idents are less than spectacular, for a channel which is spending so much on newspaper advertising. in fact they're very basic - just animations of the "6" logo on a white background - and very boring. I won't yet go so far to say City Channel is better...but...

The ident (i think) is the intro to their website http://www.channel6.ie/
