Why have they got two different font for "RTL"? Indeed why are both logos completely different? How daft.

Why is it daft?

In fact the way I see it these new logos actually compliment the channels they are on, compared to the old generic style.

RTL4 is the general entertainment with channel (think ITV)

RTL5 is supposedly the more edgier entertainment channel (a cross between E4, Watch and BBC3)

RTL7 is the basically the men and sport channel (think ITV4)

RTL8 is the women askewd channel with soaps and "female" orientated films (think ITV2 mixed with Living)

The new logos are the perfect reflection.

I never understood why they went generic in the first place (RTL8 excepted as they had already gone generic before RTL took over the Talpa/Tien channel) as each channel were different from each other.

They went generic to create a "family of stations", being more recognisable as RTL. The first look of RTL8 was quickly created, as it had to fit in with the other channels. The music used for RTL8 wasn't even specially composed for the channel; it was originally intended for RTL4, but refused.

How did Rede Globo's Inter Cine work?

It was a late-night movie banner, and, while the movie aired, the audience could choose, via televoting, the movie that would air the next night. It was replaced with US series and a regular late-night movie.

Speaking of Globo, here's how they're announcing the start of Brazilian Summer Time, this Saturday, with the latest of their traditional eye-candy:

and how Bandeirantes ("Band", for short) is announcing the start of BRST:

So the film with most votes goes on air nationwide?

It went. For a while, the audience could choose between three films. But for most of Intercine's existance, viewers could choose between two films.

Thing of the past since VOD-enabled set top boxes, podcasts, digital downloads and other kinds of interactive television.

Not so much here in Brazil, since interactive terrestrial television is just getting started here (but has massive potential), subscription television has a penetration of about 20%, and Netflix has an even lower penetration. Besides, some broadcast networks have online VOD services, but most of them don't cover their top-rated programming, and Globo prefers making full-length primetime programming available online... to subscribers of their online VOD service.
