Today, France's second private channel, M6 has launched a new look to adapt to today's digital world and also brought back the original 2D logo.
Gédéon, who also did the branding for their sister channels, M6 Music and W9, were responsible for this digital-inspired rebrand and have also created shapes based on the M6 logo for use in breakbumpers and merchandise.
They also collaborated with Black[Foundry] to create a new bespoke font called GRTSK, with some amazing music and sound design for the new look made by La Plage Records (as is the case with most of Gédéon's recent work)

These are the new breakbumpers with the logo shapes (taking a page from Fox in the US it seems)

Also yesterday marked a new era for Flemish channel VTM as it introduced a new look and a new family of channels!
It also brought back its launch slogan from 1989, "VTM kleurt je dag" (VTM colours your day)

The new family of channels include:
VTM: The flagship channel, family entertainment for all
VTM 2, the new name for Q2: Spicy reality for active adults, according to DPG. Seems like it's skewing more to women than young adults (as the former Q2 channel would do)
VTM 3, the new name for Vitaya: Movies and series every day. More tailored for older adults it seems.
And VTM 4, the new name for CAZ: Action and classics. Bit like ITV4, ain't it?

As for CAZ's sister channel CAZ 2 which launched back in March, there's no word on whether it'll be VTM-branded in the future. They could just rename it as VTM 5 or close it and move its shows to VTM 3.

And DPG's rivals at SBS Belgium plan to launch a new member of their flagship channels, called Play Zeven, in 2021.
The Play brand will also be introduced to the other 3 channels, Vier, Vijf and Zes, thus renaming them as Play Vier, Play Vijf and Play Zes.
This article is in Flemish, but it pretty much says what's happening to these channels.

Have they updated their news presentation too - VTM usually set the bar quite high for that.

The animations are beautiful and all elements seem to flow and connect to each other very nicely.
Do French TV channels tend to fully utilise graphics packages and leave them alone? (I feel like UK channels like to change elements here and there gradually messing things up).

I don't think they have.

It seems so.
Look at the consistency that France Télévisions used in their 2018 rebrand

I've found that the majority of the main French channels put in a lot of time and effort to making those graphics packages work for a long period of time, while not looking dated.

France Télévisions previous package and idents were around for over a decade. Now compare that to BBC One and I'm bored of it already.

TF1 and BBC Two's '2' logos are timeless and I'm pleased that M6 have seen sense and reintroduced the legendary 2G logo.

I don't think they have.

They did... earlier this year, when they moved to Antwerp.
