You will end up doing a LOT of walking. My experience is that on the first day just have a quick scoot round without spending any real time on any of the stands. Make a list of the things you want to go and spend more time with, and go back to them in the following couple of days. Don't try and spend ALL of each day at RAI, you'l end up with a sore head and all the kit will turn into a fuzzy mess in your head. When you register your pass will contain your details including email address. Dont give it to companies to swipe as it will give them all your details and is a definate source of spam (I've traced it back on more than one occasion) unless you're absolutely sure you want to get communication from that company. Even if you are, get a contact at the company and deal with them directly rather than their general mailing list.
Lunch queues are awful, and so is the food as a rule. Rolls with ham, rolls with cheese or rolls with ham and cheese. Go early or late. The bar in IBC is a nightmare and generally completely bunged.
If you fancy it you can walk back into Amsterdam (takes about 30 mins), but there are frequent trams from outside RAI. Don't forget to call into Bar April on Reguliersdwarsstraat which (if you haven't been before) has a novel revolving bar. If in non-gay company (or if you just want a very nice bar - nicest in Amsterdam methinks), look for De Jaren
