Interim/Temporary branding

Does anyone have anymore examples of this? (January 2017)

Yeah, they did things for Children in Need and so on from there. It was always a rubbish idea, though, most obviously because it was an actual working bar, so the acoustics were terrible and whenever they did anything in it they had to pass microphones around. It was if they'd forgotten it was supposed to be on television. And nothing ever happened in it, it was just watching people you don't know drinking.

Of course, it was based on something similar they'd done in Elstree where they took an unused studio and made it into a backstage area, where the guests would be sitting around. Which was slightly more tolerable in that in actually worked on TV.

Imagine TFI Friday's bar must have been an influence too. Wasn't it an old staff rest area (red assembly?) rather than a fitted out studio? I remember going in and it seemed a really awkward shape for television.

It didn't move into widescreen until October 2001, over three years after much of the rest of BBC1. You'd think given that notice they might have had the titles ready.

In some ways I'm suprised they weren't made in 16:9 to begin with. In the late 90s/early 00s it seemed to be common to produce things titles, graphics, idents etc. in 16:9 even if they weren't likely to be shown that way in the near future (and similarly since the mid-late 00s the same's been true with HD).

Quite a lot of Granada's presentation from the late 80s through to early 90s was quite fleeting.

There's this very short-lived look from HTV News West from 1996. Only lasted about 6 months as I recall...

So shortlived that TV Ark doesn't mention it.

Though apparently this one from 1994 didn't last long either, because they got in trouble for using an Ordnance Survey map without permission.

I think that this was interim branding in anticipation for HTV's new logo launching in 1993

There was also a bunch of abstract idents between 98-99. They had fairly decent production values for a set that didn't last long. And I can't imagine Granada didn't anticipate the Hearts taking over.

Temporary branding - the Thames 21st anniversary branding was an ingenious bridge between the skyline and the 1989 ITV package - seemed to be on for a good two or three months (think LWT's equivalent only lasted a couple of weekends)

Yes, the 21st anniversary itself was at the end of July and the ITV branding started in September so they used it for all of August.

It, the 'ice cream cone' became Thames' logo too (without the XXI of course) but that only lasted a year until it was replaced by a simpler, blue version

Not interim branding, but I've been looking for somewhere appropriate to share this image and it'll kill anyone with presentation related OCD.

Lovely pic of HTV towers in all its glory! Thank you for sharing.

From early 1993 I assume? They replaced the front signage but you'd need scaffolding to change the signs at the top of the building, so that took longer, hence why both logos are in that photo?
