Whilst browsing our archive at work, I noticed this endboard at the end of Ant and Dec's Gameshow Marathon.

An interesting co-production, probably one of very few combinations?

I seem to recall Strike It Rich moving its production to The London Studios, which then meant it was an LWT and Grundy (Fremantle) co-production too.

Does anyone know of any other interesting co-productions through history?

But that Granada/Thames co-prod probably had more to do with the Freemantle ownership of the formats (Freemantle own the Goodman/Talbot catalogue of formats), and getting them quicker and more easily with less paperwork, than if Granada did it alone.

One of these oddities came up on the YouTube Gold thread a while ago.

There was another version of this IIRC using the purple endcaps.

On a related presentation note Night and Day was the only programme that I can remember that used red smokey hearts on this ECP design. Many other programmes used yellow or defaulted to blue, but I think there were half a dozen colours available.

A Touch of Frost was a Yorkshire Television production in association with Excelsior. When the purple endcap was introduced, Excelsior's logo vanished, it was just plain text. Can't imagine they'd have been pleased about that.

For those of us of a certain age and up, that were brought up with BBC programmes only being on the Beeb and ITV programmes only ever being on ITV, I know I felt a strange thrill on seeing the 'Granada Production for the BBC' endcap on 'University Challenge' when it crossed over. It just wasn't right!

To be fair, it still happens today when a BBC programme, particularly a prominent one, ends with 'An ITV Studios production'

Same with Countdown and Cats Does Countdown

And with BBC Studios being split off, it could be the other way around as well.

"BBC Studios launched as a commercial business in April 2017, meaning it is able to produce programmes for other broadcasters as well as the BBC, supporting the BBC’s public service mission and generating financial returns for licence fee payers."

How did this come to be? Didn't Granada aggressively take-over LWT in 1994/1995? Wouldn't that be like ITV Studios producing for itself today?

I stumbled upon some Avid ECP templates at TLS a few years ago that featured (from hazy memory) Dark Blue, Teal, Orange, Sunset Yellow and the Red one in that Night and Day clip. I think most online editors were lazy and used the blue one by default Laughing

As seen in this endboard:

I wonder how often this one appears too. I can't think of any ITVS productions recently for Sky:

ITV makes quite a bit for Sky, though a lot of it through the various production companies and arms that ITV have bought or inherited over the years. Sky One's One Hundred And Eighty dart-show a year or two was done by ITV and one of their previous shows, Brainiac and its spin-offs were done by Granada Productions. Noel's Christmas Presents was done by ITV Studios for Sky many years after the BBC dropped it.

Here’s an early example of an ITV for BBC endcap.
