The ident can be viewed here: http://www.yle.fi/yle24/videosali/index.php?a=9&t=1&q=1
When the stream buffers, go forward until the clip is about 10 seconds from the end.

So, does anyone know what exactly this is used for? I presume it is some sort of frontcap. Quite odd branding though.

Also, if anyone is interested, the clip contains the last five minutes of YLE's morning breakfast programme (mostly in English)!

I though for a moment that this clip would contain the original BBC Select ident - back in the mists of time (I think 1995 or so) BBC Select was an overnight encrypted educational service on BBC TWO and run by BBC Enterprises. It was aimed at Professtionals (Accountants, Nurses etc) and showed things like "RCN Nursing Update". The ident for this is on the web somewhere - I'll see if I can find it and post it later. As far as I can remember it contained no continuity announcements, just programmes, menu captions and this ident. BBC Select didn't last too long but later evolved into BBC Learning Zone.

What this is though - I've no idea. YLE does take a good deal of programming daily from the BBC - they used to record HARDtalk from BBC World ever day for example - don't know if they still do - and had a regular booking via Eurovision to take a feed of the programme clean of the BBC World dog. It's possible that they use this ident to credit the BBC with such programmes ...

I thought BBC Select ceased!

As deejay explained above BBC Select became BBC Focus which in turn was evolved into the programming of the BBC Learning Zone.

It's nothing to do with the old BBC Select service.

Some broadcasters around the world have BBC branded blocks of BBC programming - they might be a few programmes one evening a week or a stripped half hour slot every day.

This looks like one of those - BBC programmes in a slot called 'BBC Select'

I do remember in between the days of BBC Select and BBC Learning Zone, a strand late at night. I think it was all educational but featured an unique 2 ident. Again, hazy memory again but it starts with the outside of a classroom with a window to it's side and you see the moonlight come into the room onto the table, the camera moves into the table and you see a book and as the pages flip, you see the 2 ident on each of the pages.

I haven't seen this ident on any other site and I never seen it broadcast outside the late night hours. It wasn't the best of idents either compared to the others at the time.

Are you thinking of this: http://thetvroom.com/p-bbc-two-1991-a.shtml (near the bottom under the Water ident?

This partially appears in an episode on I'm Alan Partridge, if you're very observant
