Browsing in Virgin the other day and noticed a whole section dedicated to these interactive DVD games, certainly seems to be a growth industry.

Many old gameshow formats have been resurrected, Telly Addicts (with Noel in a dodgy looking living room set), Bob Holness doing Blockbusters, Nicholas Parsons doing Sale of the Century (on a very naff looking set). Even Michael Barrymore's doing a version of Strike it Lucky Shocked

There's also The Price is Right, A Question of Sport, Deal or No Deal, Countdown, Test the Nation, the list goes on.

Anyone ever bothered with them ? They all look naff on mock up sets, the interface I understand to be slow and clunky and the games of limited shelf life. Has anyone any experience to share of these things ?

I've bought two in my time, Millionnaire from a few years ago and thats still good to play now and again, if a little slow and the first Telly Addicts DVD from last year. The problem with Telly Addicts is that Noel says the same lines each time you play so you get pretty bored within the first couple of goes.

A friend of mine bought Bullseye last year and said the control was really pants probably explains why hundreds appeared on Ebay in January!

But each year, the number of interactive DVDs seem to double from the previous year and I see when browsing the HMV homepage that Richard and Judy's quiz You Say We Pay has made it to DVD. How desperate is that for money!

Apparently the Countdown game is one to be avoided.

You don't select the letters or numbers, they are chosen for you, and you don' t have to input any words, you're supposed to do the whole thing on paper. No dictionary corner.

What's the point ?

a lot of these dvd games are less than what they are advertised to be so please read reviews on other sites before buying as catchprase was a bit of a downer! Smile

I like the idea on the Deal or No Deal one that you can play as the banker too!

We've got the Millionaire and the Bullseye one - but I've not got the patience with them as they can be so slow and between every "round" you generally get some VT of the host, which is fine the first time - but rather tedious a few goes later!

I've been told the old Family Fortunes one was crap, you had to do it all on paper and they didn't even include a pen or pencil.

Not sure about the new Vernon Kay version though.

I have the old family fortunes one - it has some dry-wipe markers and laminated cards in there.

Quite a good game really.

The Deal or No Deal one is quite good aswell - although it takes a while to select a box to open as you have to scroll through each one.

Got Red Dwarf, Little Britain and QI

Havn't played Little Britain yet as its an xmas present I'm not suppose to know.

Red Dwarf is good, if your a fan of the show otherwise it's about as interesting as watching paint dry, and the links between levels get tedious after about your 2nd play of it.

QI is impossible no-one could ever know the answers to any of them and stephens fry links 'wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong' and 'your stupid' are annoying after about 2 mintues of playing.

But with all of these things there no good unless you've got a load of friends or family round and you all play (and mine are too 'stuck in the muds' too) so playing them on your own always after you've played them about 10 times you know every question on the disc and they get put away to be taken to a car boot sale in 18 months time.

The QI one is pretty good, though quite frustrating once you get into a dead-end and have to restart the level. And some of Stephen Fry's responses repeat themselves a little too often. But the whole point of the game is really to find out things that are "quite interesting", and this is where the makers succeeded.
