I am getting a little upset about the inconsistency of the Central Brand.

The company is now referred to as ITV Central...fair enough!
The endcaps say ITV Central...not looking too bad!
...
The buildings still say Carlton...I should give them time to make new signs I suppose

The idents say ITV1 for Central England...how much effort would it take to edit in CENTRAL under the ITV1 logo?

The continuity announcers still can't manage to get things right either, I have heard the region referred to as ITV1, ITV1 for Central England, ITV1 Carlton for Central England (yes it is still said at times), Carlton Television for Central England still crops up, but once and only once have I heard ITV1 Central.

What is going on?

I thought ITV was all for its clear branding!!!

Does it matter?

It's not like they are playing old cake idents along with ITV1 idents is it.

Central no longer exists and never will again.

The only reason the name still exists for news and regional 'ITV1 Central' endcaps is because the name describes the location perfectly, same with Westcountry.

In 10 years time they will probably be called ITV1 Midlands anyway....

Well to split hairs, 'The westcountry' more accurately describes HTV West's patch, most of the area Westcountry broadcasts to is usually called 'The south west' (hence the franchise area being called 'South West England'

Nothing new there then, We've had four brand logos and three different names in the last ten years alone. The original coloured pie from the 1990s (ended in '96 I think), the textured pies (lasted a few months), Gill Sans (lasted eighteen months if that), the Carlton brand (just over three years, 1999-2002) and now the ITV1 brand (Oct 2002 - present). As for names - Central, Carlton and plain old ITV1.

but yes, they don't seem to know what they want to call themselves. Seems to change in every link.

More than its worth, by the looks of it.

Perhps they don't know what it's supposed to be called either. Perhaps they pick a name at random out of a hat prior to the link and go "you're watching *looks at piece of paper* ITV1 Carlton for Central England."

At the top of the financial reports, I reckon, showing off all this money they plan to save by getting shot of Lenton Lane and half the Central workforce...
