I agree about SS - it would be better at 9.25am like it was before.

They cant extend GMTV to 10am as its franchise hours at 6am-9.25am.

Yes Shortland Street at 9:25 - problem solved.

I meant Supermarket Sweep

I know you did! But I would really love to see Shortland Street back in a regular slot!

I cant see it myself - not on ITV anyway Wink

Thirdly, put Supermarket Sweep back in the 9.25am slot.

Impractical.
An 1 hour of Supermarket Sweep?? 30 minutes is gruelling enough, the new version is nowhere near as good as its older counterpart.

Well its not 'impractical' as it has worked in that slot before - and in my opinion its the best place for it.

I agree there is something forced about the new series (like many of these gameshows they bring back). They try and deliberately make them into what they were before. Why not let these gameshows develop there own originality again.

Correct me if I'm wrong (with some data), but shouldn't this thread be about BBC1? Random browsing through MG's overnight figures suggest to me that ITV1 has been beating its BBC equivalent more than frequently in recent weeks.

They couldn't have sweep for an hour, it would be so wrong. The only way around it being moved to 9.25 would be to either have another quiz on at 10/9.55, or move this morning to 10, either with an extra half an hour or a different programme either running after it at 12, or running after loose women (or such programme) at 1.

Though that would beg the question, what kind of viewing figures could Jeremy Kyle bring in at 5pm?

Let's get this straight - Supermarket Sweep is - and always was - utter crap, and it's the return of shows like that which is the root of ITV's problem!

I dont think it was always crap. It was ok for daytime viewing. However it has had its day and they were right to axe it when they did.

* Bring Barrymore back to Saturday nights.
* Get rid of reality shows (apart from Im a celeb)
* Review their time schedule. More movies, less Heartbeat and Midsummer Murders,
* Bring Back Bad Girls and Footballers wives.
* Give GMTV a new on-screen look.
* Scrap CITV on ITV 1, It should only be available on digital or Satellite.
* Bring Back Richard Hammonds 5 O'Clock Show (I want that to happen, but it won't for a few years atleast. Hammonds signed a Golden Handshake deal with the BEEB Evil or Very Mad )

I'd like Barrymore to return to ITV but, again, despite Michael Barrymore nowadays being what seems a shadow of his former anarchic self (through no fault of his own) some of us tend to think mainly of the past - which clearly isn't the best move for ITV. They need to move on and become fresh and original again but not 'forgetting' what worked for them in the past. By that I mean change formats for a 21st century audience but not rely on "celebrities in need" all the time and cheap reality/talent TV rubbish - X Factor excepted (even though the winner's future is often bleak).

Supermarket Sweep is awful I agree. I get the feeling, just watching Dale, that he isn't happy with hosting the show again this time round but is doing it as a favour for ITV. I'd debatably say his career has moved on from this.

Bad Girls and Footballers Wives had obviously run their course and it is pointless flogging a dead horse *cough* EastEnders.

As for CITV, they may as well call it the "My Parents Are Aliens Channel" as thats always on when I look. Perhaps it is a good idea to remove it from ITV but please don't put some god awful Terri Dwyer rubbish on in its place.

Personally I never liked Barrymore's shows so I wouldnt like him to return to ITV1.

I agree about Footballers Wives and Bad Girls. BG was long past its best when it was axed. Footballers Wives was still good but I think it was the right time for it to be axed as most of the original were leaving.

Before ITV became basically a national network ( except for those of us in Scotland ) there were 5 major companies who provided network progamming. Surely if there is now really only one ( or two depending on your opinion ) then there is a fifth of the original ideas being produced. I think ITV1 has to be credited for at least trying on a Saturday night now. Even BBC One is formulaic 6pm crap entertainment, 7pm drama, 745pm lottery show, 820pm Casualty.

I too would love to see a return to the regions. I live in what used to be the Grampian region, and now there's a bizarre situation, where what is now STV ( for the whole of Scotland ),is providing two different regional programmes at the same time ( North Tonight / Scotland Today ). Also it's bad enough having BBC Scotland being ( IMO ) Glasgow biased, or maybe more accurately Rangers / Celtic biased, without it crawling over into STV, whereas before when Grampian was in existence, before the SMG takeover, there was less of a central belt leaning.

Well they do get consistently good viewing figures still, so they will be around for a little while yet.

What would they replace Heartbeat with though? I think the relatively news Wild at Heart is a poor replacement for Where the Heart Is -- not sure how those two compared in terms of ratings.
