Right now, We have BBC1, BBC2, Scottish/Grampian/Border, C4 and Five. If Britian never existed and it was just the 4 countries (Scotland, England, Ireland (It was one whole country until the 1910's), Wales) since Queen Elisabeth I died in 1603, This is how Scotland might have in their channels

SBC1 (Scottish Broadcasting Corporation)
SBC2
STV Central (or STV North in Northen Scotland and STV South in Southern Scotland)
C4S (Channel 4 Scotland)
G5 (Gaelic Channel 5)
How would that look

England would have

EBC1 (English Broadcasting Corporation)
EBC2
ITV (Just like now)
C4 and Five would be the same as now

Wales

WBC TV (Welsh Broadcasting Corporation)
WTV (Same idea as Scotland)
S3C (All Welsh Channel)
C4W (Indepenent English speaking Welsh channel)

Well for a country that actually has two BBC2 services, I notice you have given Wales none.

Where will all the programmes about boats go now?

Very poorly thought-out.

The channels would be decided by the countries themselves.

No that's the Emu Broadcasting Corporation

We'd probably be more like the Irish model to start off with - I'd struggle to see Scotland supporting five terrestrial channels on its own. We'd probably have two licence fee funded (but with adverts) channels and a commercial operator.

Presumably we wouldn't be able to do the same as Ireland and pick up stray signals from south of the border though, would we? (aside from viewers in the borders, natch)

No disrespect, but Scotland, on its own, is too poor and small to support national broadcasters who commission the vast majority of their own programs.

The population of Scotland is only around double that of my area, Tyne Tees, and there just is not the economic activity, diversity and strength in my area to support one regional, programme-producing company.

To all Scots, like all Geordies and Welsh, forget true indepedence. We just ain't creative, dynamic or entrepreneurial enough to get along in this world by ourselves.

Codswallop - speak for yourself. Tell that to the Danish - who have the same population (approx) as Scotland - and has a credible broadcasting service.
