And certainly no-one can disagree that Cheap Cheap Cheap was a flop. Quite remarkable that it stayed in its original timeslot for the duration of its run - compared to another Channel 4 teatime failure, Benchmark with Paddy McGuinness, which was moved to lunchtimes and then, after performing badly at *that* time of the day too, shunted to 4 in the morning. (And it probably didn't get many more viewers than ITV Nightscreen either...)
Cheap Cheap Cheap. Recorded in February, transmitted September. So Channel 4 had doubts, as it gathered a small layer of dust on the virtual server shelf.
Problem was it wasn't *that* bad at times. - the quiz format wasn't long enough to sustain the entire show, yet in itself, it had very good shout at the telly and playalong watchability. So to pad out the rest of the show, throw in some improv comedy.
But that had problems (despite Hattrick Productions producing) in that at times, the audience weren't laughing at it, they were willing the show to get better.
Another series, tighter production decisions (some of which may have been disguarded in series one to indulge the shows creator and host) script some of the gags, and it might have flowed better.
I doubt a good Noel performance in the jungle will make Channel 4 realise they need a new series of Cheap Cheap Cheap though..
