We're now at the point where sponsorship idents can basically be a show in themselves, as proven by Tombola tonight.

Aren't they the same as last year (hence the reference to Ant)?

Wasn't that because it's an actual ant? In the same way the other creatures were being named what they are?

Well yes, but quite prominently referenced in a way that I doubt it would be if they were new this year (they are definitely from last year).

Most of the idents in circulation are from last year, but some are new to accommodate the new... can we call insects contestants?

The ones I know of are: Spider (who's scared of everything), Caterpillar (who is in love with the butterfly), stick (who's always playing Tombola Arcade), Grub (who's selfish), Ant (who's there for slight comic relief) and last years winner Butterfly. They have also added some more including Scorpion (who is scary) and some glowing thing that I don't know.

Nice to hear from you. And how is Emily doing these days? Haven’t seen her for ages.

A massive 11m tuned in to the launch last night, the highest rating launch for many a year, and the highest rating non football programme this year.

That's an incredible overnight figure. Wonder how it'll consolidate.

Amazing how it does so well after so long. Is the first launch I've watched in many years - is a very slick production as you'd expect, even if they did spoiler the outcome of what the entire premiere was based around with the live footage during the links.

Is it true Harry Redknapp signed up not knowing what was involved?

I always wonder how people like Harry Redknapp have no idea what the show is about after all these years AND why they agree to go on it with no idea what they're getting in for.

Every year you have someone saying they thought there was somewhere warm serving proper food that they go to when the cameras stop rolling like Harry was last night, clearly they never learn (or maybe they put that in the show to fool us that there really isn't Razz).

Very true. Considering it's been going for 16 years and it can still draw audiences like that, it shows no signs of slowing at all.

I think the reason it does so well is given it's short airtime. 2-3 weeks is just enough time to leave people still wanting more, with a 50 week break in between.

I think other reality shows could learn lessons from this, mentioning no names *ahem X Factor*. Series running for 3 months+ can cause audiences to wain by the end. Whereas if you can pack it all in a couple of weeks, it can keep the canter flowing and can make it unmissable TV.
