I always thought this advert was quite crass but I don't think it got complaints.

Good point raised by John (sometime of this parish) here:
http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/05/mcdonalds-playout/

I've had to swap out ads within an hour of TX in the past and having to do it on the same day is a regular occurrence. Sometimes it might be because there's been a news event that makes running an ad seem in poor taste but more often than not it's because they've realised after delivering the copy that there's a typo in one of the captions or something like that. Happens all the time, so it's very odd that they claimed they couldn't pull it until after today.

I do know of one local TV channel which is left to run by itself for 12 hours (it only has a day shift) but that's a real rarity.

Remove McDonalds from the end and it could have quite easily been a John Lewis Christmas Advert. Which, I'm sure, no one would have batted an eyelid.

That's probably because it was using the very real prospect of death affecting a family to advertise the need for life insurance as opposed to a filet-o-fish.

I can remember the advert for, I think, Wrigley's Extra, with a dog climbing out of a man's mouth which was quite disgusting. That one got banned too.

I sometimes think these adverts that get banned are deliberately made to get banned- the attention it gets means it gets noticed more than a normal advert would.

Regardless, it's still using emotional manipulation to sell you a product.

You see, this is another case of people being offended by an advert just because it deals with a controversial subject. Although it does exploit this situation a bit. More recent ads that have got complaints were Pepsi (remember all of that drama surrounding the ad) and Durex (for obvious reasons).

Surely it's a case of job done for McDonalds? The advert got a lot of publicity for the brand in other media outlets.

I think that sort of publicity works well if it's something new that no one has heard of but I don't think it will encourage people to suddenly want to go to McDonald's

Just like the Pepsi ad it gets the brand way more publicity.

Can anyone (especially the admin) please change the title to "Ill-thought adverts". The description should be "Adverts in bad taste". We're talking about bad taste adverts , not advents .
