I know there was a thread on this ages ago but it's dropped down quite some way now, I was just wondering if anybody knew what idents/production caps have been "released" on DVD, by that I mean which shows have been released with their original programmes.

I know the Thames 1970-1989 logo appears on quite a few DVD releases, released through network (The Bill, The Sweeney) & that the various Central idents/production caps have appeared on Boon, Auf Weidershen Pet (sp), Chancer, etc. But just wondered if any others did (Like HTV, Scottish, etc.)

Well, there were these DVDs recently released by Network:

If Network's previous output is anything to go by these will include full idents from the companies concerned. A few in there...

Most of Network's DVDs also feature the VT clocks of programmes as a hidden feature. If you press the chapter back button as soon as an episode starts this will reveal it.

Ah yes it does seem that the Network DVD releases seem to keep all of these intact (including oddly enough the "end of part 1/part 2" captions as well)

Oh really, never realised that, I know that The Bill DVD releases don't seem to have them, well the 1988 series doesn't at least, although rather oddly the second or third episode on disc 1 still has the Thames ident at the beginning, even though they go by the end of volume 2.

The Series 1 (inc. Woodentop), 2 and 3 have the Thames Front cap/end caps, one (This Little Pig, Series 2) has the VT Clock.

Ah ok, thank you for the information re the VT clock, oddly enough Volume 1 & 2 (of Series 4) seem to have the front caps in tact (although I imagine that with the exception of London they were never broadcast) however one episode of volume 4 also seems to have the cap for some reason

I really like the way they leave the VT clocks in - on the older releases the clock is the traditional blackboard with a stopwatch attached, and you can always see or hear the actors in the background waiting to start, and other noises from the studio. And sometimes a hand pops into shot to take the clock away too early. Adds to the experience nicely I think.

Network certainly used to include pre-programme clocks but I haven't seen them do it for a good while now.

Incidentally, Network's recent Look Back on 70s Telly Issue 2 includes the rare, animated 1970s Tyne Tees Colour logo (before an episode of Nobody's House, IIRC)

Can't say I've seen any VT clocks on any of my Network DVD's (I only have a few anyway), but on The New Statesman collection they've kept in all YTV frontcaps, even on the 1989 series, for which I believe was on the copies, but weren't aired on ITV or on the previous DVD release from Granada. I've got the first series of Watching from them aswell, which was broadcast in 1987, no episodes have a frontcap, but all the ends have a Granada endcap, although I believe at this time Granada were adding frontcaps on the transmissions, not on the actual tape/copy.

I've got some DVDs of Minder from Clear Vision and they even bothered to add a Thames frontcap to episodes made after 1988, although it was the 70's version of the skyline, not the tidied up 80's version.

Just bought 'Doctor At Large' from HMV in Walsall for £22.

Full idents, endcaps & adcaps on each episode, including the 'colour strike' black & white episodes.

In contrast, I had 'Dick Turpin' a few years back. Did only some episodes have an adbreak? No idents or endcaps.

Even odder, regarding the CV Minder releases, they had the Thames 70's skyline front cap on a Minder episode from 1991, when Gary Webster took over from Dennis Waterman Shocked Laughing
