I've noticed the odd widescreen programme here and there is being preceded by a 14:9 ident on analogue. I noticed this on 'Doctors' on BBC One on Friday and today for 'The Weakest Link' on BBC Two. It's very hit and miss - why don't they just stick with one rule?

Cheers, Asa

Yep, they seem to be trying it out, especially on BBC TWO. Also before a film we seem to be treated to 16:9 versions of idents (on analogue) as well.

IIRC, BBC Wales has been doing this for quite a while. Maybe they are trying to ease people into widescreen.

Yep - have noticed this for quite a while on BBC Wales, but they seem to do wierd things like introduce weather view with a 14:9 ident and show the actual programme in 4:3 - they should just stick with one or the other IMHO!

Are any other Nations/Regions doing the same?

Yes, I notice that the junctions around CBBC ONE are now done in 14:9 (in line with CBBC itself)

The trailer and following ident into Neighbours and also the ident before CBBC are now widescreen

The regional news in London (Newsroom South East) has been broadcast in 14:9 for some time now .. ever since NSE went into mock-14:9 mode. Unfortunately it is ALWAYS England 10! Bor-a-bloody-ring, eh Billy!?

AAAAAAGH!! DON'T GET ME STARTED ON ENGLISH 10!!!!!

Why Can't I get North West tonight-they use 5 idents,3 of them were withdrawn nationally, and they have GORDON BURNS,for heavens sake!

Ask anyone who's hasn't seen Newsroom South east for a while and they will tell you the Regular presenters are Mike Embly and Gwenen Edwards, with Rob Curling. Of course, the've all left.....
What was wrong with the other 3 BBC One South East idents you used to have, these pictures are from www.tvradiobits.co.uk :

Instead we get English 10,nice one but EVERY SINGLE TIME???????http://www.users.nascr.net/~rgwill/NSE13.jpgThey've BOTHERED to change the idents to say 'London' on them, but still the same one?!?!?!?!!!?!?!?!?!?!

Strangely enough, I notice that BBC East always seem to add the 'black bars' at the top and bottom of promos transmitted from London that are shown in the normal 4:3 format, just before the the BBC One clock appears with regional branding for the East region before the weekday news bulletins, and before the BBC One balloon ident appears, with the regional titling, before 'Look East' starts at 6.30pm.

I know that the both the clock and the ident appears in 14:9 format.

I think the same thing happens, prior to the start of the weekend bulletins as well.

Is this the case everywhere else around the UK?

BBC South East/London have never done this; the black bars never appear before the ident and disappear has soon as the regional opt has finished; but I know BBC South and the new BBC South East stick them on early.

Yes a few regions decide to throw the bars on early. (and sometimes take them off late) BBC Midlands and East Midlands don't do this, they only appear when they need to.
